Norinco CQB M4 AR ~ vs Others like...

I think the most important question has yet to be asked: what's your budget? This really is the sole determining factor and renders many other considerations moot.

I personally don't think the Norc is a great rifle, and the quality and tolerances aren't necessarily there - but for the money it's hard to beat. The NEA probably offers the best value for the price (in particular the barrel and the new BCG), but tracking one down will be the biggest challenge. Stag, RRA, DPMS, Spikes and LMT are also all good ARs - although they'll typically run a bit more.

I've been playing around with a Norinco for the last little while just to see what their like. It has 2000 rounds through it in 2 (that's right 2) range sessions. It has been lubed twice and that is all that has been done to it for maintenance. The first 1000 rounds was bone stock, then I changed out a few parts to dress her up a bit. The upper, lower, BCG, trigger parts and barrel are still stock. Zero failures so far. And yes it was HOT and DRY before each range session was done! Here's what it looks like now, sorry no shots of the other side yet.

Of course it is now a $2500 Norinco, but I am still 2K less into it than I am into my Noveske's with the same mods.

Budget = Norinco absolutely.

A bit more = NEA, I have one with NO issues other than a 100 lb trigger pull.

A bit more than that = I would tell you to jump on what ever Spikes Tactical platform Questar has available right now. They are all almost gone and the wait list for more is 6 months. I missed out last year because I waited regarding Spikes.

I bought a 14.5" LE Spikes last month, and just bought a 16 " Mid Length yesterday.

You don't wanna miss the boat on the Spikes stuff. High quality and limited supply.
