Hi everyone,

recent member to the forum. After a long time not being involved in shooting sports, i have applied for my pal/rpal and am taking it up again (i used to shoot before i moved to canada).

Because i have such a long wait time ahead of me. i decided i might as well go big or go home with my first firearm (so far). I ordered a Sig p226 triple serial german from a us retailer. Having it sent to gray guns for a trigger job, and then on to the importer.

so far everyone iv talked to (vendor, gunsmith, importer) has been great and easy to communicate with. I will keep you guys posted on the progress. it's probably going to be slow - september or october till i see my shiny new toy!

cheers!

Hey,

Welcome back to the shooting sport :) Love the P226, great platform!

Would you mind sharing the vendor, smith (obviouly GGI) and importer. I'm probably going to be doing this to eventually handle and shoot a GGI worked pistol and I'd be interested on your experience and people you worked with.

Thanks!

I am intrigued by this as well, I would love to buy a stainless nitron 226 and then get their magic done to it.........

On second thought:mad:

Actually what I would really love to be able to do is send my existing stainless elite down to them and get it worked over and finished in Superblack:rockOn: D**N laws...

hi guys,
initially i didnt share the importer name because i couldnt find their tag on the site. but i just saw it up there. I am dealing with Prophet River firearms, Clayton & Melissa have been so helpful. super great with emails and all the annoying questions i must have had, about who i should send it to , what paperwork do i need to fill.

The gunshop i ended up getting from was Buds (they had a NIB model, german no less), for 700.00!!! a price i couldnt pass up. If i just did an import without the gunsmithing i would come out ahead at 950.00 pretty dead even with retail here. No offense to gunsmiths here in canada, but from the research i did, no one had a real specialization on the platform; or if they did, they didnt market it very well. I could have gotten the sig srt dropped in for about 150 here in canada, but for 100 more, why not just go all out and get bruce gray to work his magic?

Initially i was going to buy the firearm in canada, and send it to the states. but that required export from canada, import to usa, export from usa, reimport to canada. 2 extra step, that would add a lot of time i think. and would be more expensive, plus higher purcahse price to begin with.

So on the suggesting of clayton, he said why dont you check out gun broker and see if they have the item you want. gun broker is great, lets you see real prices of firearms (auctions); and great way to base a realistic offer on.

I basically called the vendor who had my item, told them i wanted the firearm sent to the gunsmith who is an FFL, and they were cool with that. I also informed the gunsmith, that the retailer would send the firearm directly, and provided the gunsmith with the importers FFL already to be kept on file. I think letting the gunsmith and retail store know you have all your ducks in a row with regards to the export/import paperwork keeps them happy and they dont worry about getting it to you; they are happy to go do their work and not worry about dealing with you being in a different country.

Having slides sent across the border, i suppose is doable, but i suscpect you would have to do the import/export/export/import tango. you might as well buy a slide in the states, and do the import as a part.

will keep you posted on progress!!!

Ya I'm curious because I want to get the p226 but I'm trying to find a way/smith to lighten that 10lb da pull. I was looking at the enhanced elite but this might be a way to go. Although duty on that german pistol might be a killer

Armco does work on SIGs, I don't have any reference or feedback of their work though. I don't believe there is any better SIG smith than bruce gray @ grayguns...

Gerry @ Total Automation is also highly regarded in that matter but also US based...

yes. I got it started before my rpal/pal was issued. ;P cheeky? maybe, but why not? Im going to have to wait a long a** time anyway before stuff happens; and i can spread out my expenses, and why not go for your dream set up if your waiting 6-8 months already. Plus, if i get denied, i can just resell it no problem and recoup my costs - im sure i could get a good price for a P226 German - modified by Gray Guns up here in Canada if i really needed to sell. the likelihood of being denied is pretty slim. So unless i say something incredibly stupid on the interview or one of my references decides to screw the pooch on me, there is no real reason to be denied.

I was advised that even if the pistol is miraculously got imported before the rpal is approved, they would just hold it for me until i am approved, at no cost.

am i crazy? maybe!

I spoke to Gerry and Robert (2 other highly regarded US based smiths), and they are great to deal with, super communicative, and faster turn around time. i decided to go with gray even with the wait. is it expensive, yes! overpriced, perhaps. is it psychological - probably. :) but im stoked

I'm sure that Gerry and Robert Burke are also great, but I would definatly go with Gray too without thinking twice about it regardless of the price and delays :D This is definatly what I'll do when I import a GGI modded pistol myself (I've had plans for it for a while, just need some more budget as I'd like an X-five or P226SL as base)!

yes, bringing in an x-five and having him do his package on that would be a bank buster! but the only way to go if you wanted to compete with it!

Haa come on, don't leave us hanging like that :D

Oooook, that was mean. I've got a one-off 226 Sport Stock from a SIG US employee incoming, with nickel bits and bobs and internals replaced & worked over by Mr. Gray and his elves.

I expect it to be a shooter. Lol.

I'm jealous! Please post some SIG #### when it arrives ;)

Not reeeeeeeally sure I deserve congratulations for being armed with a telephone and a credit card, but....

and the Lust goes on...

I have a SIG/Grayguns X-Five and two other very fine pistols. I should be satisfied. That said, I often find myself on one of several sites ogling another Mastershop X-Five. Some might understand that my experience with my current X-Five has spoiled me for another "off the shelf" pistol and so another trip to GrayGuns would have to be in the plan if I were to spring for the gun that has me tingling. Despite being able to use the Gray services from within the US, I prefer the process followed by the OP and thank him for letting us all into the game. Now all I have to do is juggle a few accounts and credit cards and figure out a way to explain to local management why there is another new and different looking gun in my case.

Hi guys, update:

Gray guns has my gun and it is now in their to do pile!
bit of a wait 8-12 weeks. but speaking to Roy and Chris, they are very helpful and communicative. reply to emails really quickly (assuming you email them during business hours).

only hitch is vendor forgot to ship my extra magazines. but with my long wait time, they can send it to catch up no problem!
