Stating the obvious doesn't answer my question. The post that I was responding to stated that the 870 was somehow more "purposeful" a firearm than a KSG which in the OP's opinion is only good for plinking. IMHO since neither are trully suitable for hunting, both are "plinkers".
I am well aware of the 870's rock-solid reputation and I'm not knocking the 870 by any means. Too bad that reputation is all Remington has been riding on lately. I would confidently state that the build quality and attention to detail coming out of Keltec surpasses 90% of all recently manufactured Remington product.
and how much is your ksg up for on the EE?
How's the barrel change on the KSG? fairly easy I bet, but anything floating around? swapping barrels is a pretty nice feature to have, you can contour the gun to your purpose without changing anything else.
chokes? Can I toss a choke in there? the purpose being tightening my pattern.
manually switching tubes when one is empty? If I've got 14 on board and feel i need that, I'd like to be able to utilize that as much and as quickly as possible.
where are the sling mounts? again, if there are 14 in board, there better be provisions for easy carrying.
AFAIK, 870/590/500 don't have these problems :
1. Trigger reset. This will be adjusted in the production model so that you can hold the trigger down, pump back and forward, release, and then re-pull the trigger to fire the next round. No worrying about the trigger going dead, and no Pump-firing if you hold the trigger down.
2. Pump lock switch. A new latch button is in the works that will allow the trigger finger to activate the pump lock without reaching in front of the trigger guard, and potentially getting pinched by the pump. Only the KSG in the law enforcement booth had a similar latch button, made out of welded steel, but the production model will be a polymer button pinned to the steel.
3. a removable rail mounted hand-stop will be available (and probably included) to help alleviate fears of sliding your hand too far forward in front of the barrel.
4. indicator holes in the top of the magazine tubes so you can visually see when you have 0, 1, or 2 rounds left in a tube.
visually confirming a firearm is empty is a, uh, a pretty big thing, no?
same with possibly detaching your fingers with a load of buckshot.
dead trigger? no thanks.
I realize these are all pre-production things.
how is reloading without taking your eyes off the target? Doesn't seem to be any way to reload quickly without wasted motions, or putting one in the chamber quickly without flipping the shotgun over.
for the
purpose of a fighting shotgun, being able to be used in high stress environments/situations, things should be kept simple IMHO.
yes, the KSG is a nice firearm.
Is it the end all, game changer? no.
Does it have a purpose? yes, right now - range.
is it worth +$1000? no.
time will tell the rest.
