What does a rifle say about its owner?

Good on you

i have always liked the simple things in life. i drive my old truck and and work with my hands. all my guns are bolt actions or single shots. i have had semis and got rid of them. i tryed to convince my self to get a synthetic stainless for the wet and cold and rough. evey gun i own is blued and wood stocked. i take care of what i got. i am only 22yrs old but i like to try and be old fashion like the old timers i hang out with. i guess i just respct the way they are and try to be that way as well

Good on you buddy, I have owned lots of wood and blued guns and they don't self destruct when it rains out. Looking for another right now. Wipe dry, lube etc. and ready to go. There is something about wood, even a ding or mark on it shows it has been used. They are not Swiss watches, they are hunting tools with a purpose, get out and use them. Cheers Roscoe

I don't think you can tell much at all about someone by the rifle they have when you see them.

So many of us have a fair number quite different of rifles, and just because someone is hunting with a $100 enfield today, doesn't mean they weren't shooting a $4000 long range precision rig just yesterday.

I'm not a hunter and probably never will be although nearly every one in my family is, I have yet to acquire a taste for game. Instead I enjoy the target sports and the friendships you make during a heated friendly competition. For this reason I prefer the standard calibers like .308. I was shooting a hybrid Mauser with a heavy savage barrel but found it to heavy to make class. Most everyone shoots a Remington of some sort so I'm possessed to find something different just to prove a point. Like my rimfire class I shoot a savage and do pretty well with it when most everyone will tell you there isn't a more accurate rifle than an anschutz. As long as your ready to spend $1500 to start. Regardless of what you shoot and what discipline you prefer the guys who put in the time to get to know the equipment they're using are much more likely to say hi and share stories. The guys who just dust off the old gun and dig through their hunting pack for the ten year old box of ammo they bought from a hardware store because they forgot thier box in the bottom of the sock drawer, and go to the range the day before a hunt to try and sight in a rifle that hasn't been cleaned in years are usually the one that don't care about our sport and just have a gun cause they can. They seem to come out of the wood work around two weeks before hunting season and group 8" at 100m. I can't keep count how many times I've heard guys say "ah that's good enough. I got lots of ammo."

I bowhunt. I guess that means that loud noises startle me? That's what my wife says; as soon as the vacuum cleaner comes out I'm off the man cave to build some arrows...:nest:

IMO, guys with quality built, tough gear have been there, done that, and came to realize the money spent on said gear is of far greater value than the $$ spent. I use to be about quantity and bought cheap or avg stuff, but now realize that money is better spent on good stuff that lasts a lifetime.

A $2000 rifle, over 30 years of shooting and hunting is better spent than 4 $500 rifles.

+1 on that. Like I heard somewhere, I am not rich enough to buy crappy tools!

I like accurate rifles and I've never owned a Remington yet. When I was shopping for a 17 FB my choice was Remington or Cooper. I like my Cooper. Savage rifles are usually what I buy as they are generally quite accurate out of the box.

Nothing stereotypes the fudd following around here like a weatherby wearing a huskemaw... EVERY one of those ****bags uses the term "flat shooting" and believes that speed is everything, then it's all the bullet's fault for vaporizing on impact at 160yds...why would you shoot 140gr bullets out of a 300wby mag? Oh yeah! You NEED 3400fps right??? Ugh.

That someone can have fun with a wide range of guns says quite a bit about him.

1. Experienced hunters who are shooting .303's or 30-30's get auto respect

2. Hunters using .308's get auto respect

3. I can't help it, but if you bought your first cooper in the last 3 years, you're a poser :D

4. Shoot a .280 or 7mm-08, auto respect

5. shoot a 300wm and not know the grain of your bullets,...sorry, ding dong, poser

6. Shoot a pimped up stevens 200.... I'm gonna leave half way into your hour long conversation telling me how amazing a rifle it is.

7. Shoot a wooden stock Sako,...hello !! you know what you're doing.

8. Hunt a Marlin Lever from the 60's or before, auto respect.

9. If you painted your gun camoflauge, sorry....POSER!

i hate all sks's in any form, i hate stepping on the steel cases, i hate the bamg bang bang and i hate the spray and pray mentality. if your an sks shooter i will look down on you when im at the range.

other than sks shooters i dont really look up or down as long as the shooter can operate them.

im at the range the other day picking off 1/4" groups with my .22 at 150 yards(lawl) when my friend notices incoming cartridges. we look up, its mr sks beside us spraying cartridges our way. none hit, whatever, they leave in a bit before Im annoyed enough to mention.

Some friendly newcomers arrive just as I finish another amazing competition level group. They get comfy. we keep shooting and experience deja vu as more 7.62 cartridges rain down from above. they moved after they noticed, cool cats.

Moral- in this country theres no escape from the sks

I Hunt with a churchill converted #4 mk1 in .303 brit because it kills as good as any other rifle and it was a gift from a dear old friend, it has meaning. Sometimes if hunting local i Use a cheap but solid and reliable Stevens pump 12g because 's all i can legally use locally. I have fun with many .22's but prefer anything accurate and reliable. Loving my CZ lately.

For me it's a good mix of function and form, and i think that reflects my personality... I drive an early 90's ford pickup and have a new toyota camry for the family to cruise in. I make a good living but certainly dont let the pursuit of wealth rule my life and take me away from my family life, i like my job because i enjoy the work, the hours, and the pay is decent.

Wa wa wa. You 1/4 inch group guys are always in the way, having to sip your latte between each shot holding up the benches for hours for twenty shots. Geez get out of the way would ya.. :yingyang:

Some of our Weatherby's................the gun that some people love to hate. I guess I love speed from their big magnum cartridges and some of them are the fastest on the market. "Long distance killers". :D

I just like guns.Leverguns are my favourite they just feel right to me.The only action I haven't owned is a pump.Nothing against them,I've used them and liked them just haven't got around to getting one yet.My next gun will probaly be a 12G pump, unless a good deal on another 99 comes up first.lol

I plan on getting a SKS at some point as well, not for hunting but just for some fun plinking.

Mine say I'm utilitarian. All of my guns were bought with specific purposes in mind and are intended to be used, not babied.

Also that I strongly dislike shooting auto loaders and enjoy shooting guns that others scoff at. :p

I like what I can't afford. Although I just fell into my first LH second hand custom that I think might actually have made what I like affordable. :D
