Hi guys. I have done some research on the differences between the 75 and 85, and there definitely seems to be a difference of opinion in terms of these rifles' actions.

I'm no 'smith, but the consensus seems to be that neither model has ever had controlled round feed in the same sense as Mauser/Pre-64 Winchester, but I have definitely read somewhere previously that the 75 was more of a CRF than the 85. More recently, however, I have read that in fact the exact opposite is true, and that the 75 is purely a push feed. Can someone please once and for all definitively lay this argument to rest for me?

Thanx in advance.

85 is more controlled, but still not the same as a Mauser. It has the bottom cut out of the boltface, to allow the case to slide in.

I've had 85's and 75's, but only 75's now.

Once the case slides in, does it stay grasped? Why the preference for the 75 over the 85?

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think that no one had any answers.

If you're looking for crf, buy a new M70 FW and go hunting... If you want a reliable pushfeed witb a dm, buy a Sako. The 85 is not enough of a crf to bother calling it one.

IMO, the 75 has better ergos, better feeding and ejection, and better barrel contours.

I have a sako 75 .338 win mag with a mcmillan 75 magnum stock anda sako 85 in 7mm-08 and one in 7mm rem mag. I prefer the 75's too but they are slot heavier

heavy isnt always a bad thing...:D

My 75 Hunter .338wm goes 9.5lbs scoped. Should drop 3/4 lb when the new stock gets here. What fill did you go with in your McMillan?

i went with the magnum fill. mcmillan told me if i put an edge stock on they would not warranty it because its over .300 mags. i love it but right now it weighs 10lbs 7oz scoped no sling. i have a bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16x50 on it
