Ballistol Lubricant

Just noticed Canada Ammo sells Ballistol, however they are out. I did come across a Sewing Machine site during my search that advertises Ballistol? Weird.

It would appear that the Canadian distributor also owns a knitting and sewing store.

Go to ballistol.ca to order direct from him.

I used to use Ballistol. Up side is that it cleans really well and lubricates nicely. Downside, it smells of BO mixed with alcohol... and the smell kind of lingers. Other downside is that it leaves a pretty heavy residue if you're using a washable cloth to clean your guns so washing that cloth isn't fun. Best to use disposable wipes or something else.

I kind of like G96 better, I really want to try Frog Lube.

I been using Ballistol in place of Break-Free CLP for a few months now and I won't be going back to Break-Free. I kinda like the smell (smells like black licorice) but my wife hates it. The smell does dissipate after awhile.

As a lubricate and cleaner, Ballistol creeps into the tiniest crevices. One of the benefits of Ballistol is it does lose the ability to protect & lubricate even in the presence of liquid water. Ballistol will not float on top of water like petroleum based lubrication, it emulsifies with water. It is not hygroscopic as some people believe.

Ballistol does not harm the environment, my hands or my health. Been around for many, many decades.

Guys... It is oil for sewing Machines.

Go to a sewing store and buy some. Geesh.
It is used as a lubricate for sewing machines along with many other machines with moving parts.
FIREARMS - Cleans & dissolves traces of copper, lead, brass, zinc, & tombac. Lubricates & protects firearms, lock, stock & barrel. Forms a film that protects against rust. Will never gum-up or harden. Ideal for pistol grips, & rifle stocks.

Ballistol works very well as a CLP. I used it but had an asthma flare up during each cleaning session. Did a little research and found that Ballistol is known to initiate asthma. So if you have asthma, it is probably a good product to avoid.

Slight hijack, but is Break Free harmful to your health in some way? I use it as my CLP but never use gloves or anything.

Break-Free CLP.
Caution: Contains Petroleum distillates. Use with adequate ventilation.
Danger: Harmful or fatal if swallowed.
I wear gloves when using any petroleum product.

Yeah, I feel like a butthead. Just did some power research and ended up ordering a bunch of non-toxic frog lube from North Trail.

Brake Clean in the field, ZEP concentrated orange when at home, then WeaponShield on a patch ($21 for 16oz multi-year supply) to protect.

Does anyone know if Ballistol can be found in Edmonton or Calgary? Does anyone have experience using Ballistol as a CLP?

I will stick to Break Clean considering how widely it is used & trusted throughout most industrialized militaries (so I hear)

I want to try Ballistol and thought I could find it in Edmonton, however I will be ordering it from somewhere.
