Suggestions for a cheap yote scope that works ?

I picked up a 270 rifle (ruger american), that I plan on using for deer with a 3x9x40 burris fullfield II, in the fall. The burris is a decent deer scope, but untill deer season comes around, I was planning on reloading some 100gr bullets and using my 270 for coyote hunting. Untill I can get the OK from my wife, to buy a dedicated heavy barrel 223 with good quality glass, I am going to take off my 3x9x40 burris scope temporarily(until deer season), and put a inexpensive, higher magnification scope on the .270 & do some yote hunting. I would like to keep my budget under $200 (if possible), to find a inexpensive yote scope with atleast 4x12x40 magnification, but prefer something at around 6x18x40, so I can take some long distant shots at a yote, because my hunting spot is really wide open, and I have scene yotes at that distance out there.

Once I can get myself a dedicated yote rifle & quality glass, I will permanently mount my burris 3x9x40 scope back onto my .270, and I will likely use the inexpensive scope that I'm looking for now, onto a .22lr rifle.

So far, I have looked at a bushnell banner 6x18x40, and a vortex crossfire 4x12x40, because they are inexpensive, but I don't really have any experience with any scopes in this lower price range, and don't really know if its a waste of money, because if these scopes end up fogging up & losing zero, then its not really worth buying.

Anyone know if something like a bushnell banner is a half decent cheap scope, that can handle recoil from a light rifle chambered in .270 ?

That Burris is a decent scope. There aren't any cheaper scopes on the market that will be better.

Sometimes, you can get a good deal on a Leupold at a gunshow. I've picked up several there.
 
you can sell your 3x9x40 burris fullfield II & spend a few more bucks & get a Redfield 4-12 scope good glass & lifetime warranty & you will still have gas money
 
Surf on over to futong.com and have a look at their 6x-24x 50 (side focus) or their 8x-32x 50. And spend $85 or $60 on a very serviceable scope!

I really like both of mine. In fairness my first 8x-32x didn't focus properly, so it cost me an extra 10 bux for return postage. The next one was just great, it's been on my .30-'06 and my M14 for a few hundred rounds each, and it still works great. I've also had it on a couple .22's; but, so what, right?

I liked this scope so much that I bought a second one to ride on my Bill Leeper built .221 but then I got a great deal on a Tasco 10x-40x.

In truth, I love my 8x-32x's but they're not really a great scope for field use, I think the 6x-24x is a better range of magnification so that's what I use on my usual gopher rifle.

If you were closer I'd let you play with my spare 8x-32x

Honestly, the $85 for the 6x-24x with side focus is some great value for a scope.
 
Thanks for the input.... I do agree that the burris 3x9x40 is a decent scope for the money, and will be put back on my rifle & sighted back in, just before deer season. I have no problem hitting the vitals of a large deer @250 yards with that set-up.

The reason I'm looking for a inexpensive, higher magnification scope, is so that I can try my luck with some longer ranges, on shooting a smaller yote (vs a deer). Its not going to be a waste of money, if I get something like a $200 scope in the 18x-24x magnification range, because once I get myself a dedicated heavy barrel 223 & matching quality glass, then my 270 will permanently keep the burris 3x9x40 scope mounted to it, and that 270 will stricly be my deer rifle (& moose back-up)...and the $200 higher magnification scope will be permanently put on my CZ452 varmint (.22lr) rifle, and that gun will be used for long range .22lr target competitions, and a cheap alternative for practising long range shooting......so to make a long story short, I'm getting a inexpensive $200 high magnification scope, that I can temporarily use on my 270, for long range yote hunting, and then later on, after my wife has given me the OK (or forgotten about yet another gun purchase), to get myself a quality 223 heavy barrel & quality long range ability scope..... In the end, this $200 high magnification scope, will be temporarily used on a 270(one season probably), and then get mounted to a CZ452 varmint .22lr, and be used for long range .22lr shooting (to save money practising with cheap .22lr ammo)

I will check out the site futong.com, as suggested, because Ive never heard of it.... Right now, its really a toss up between a vortex crossfire, bushnell banner, and trying to get lucky on EE finding something of better quality used, if possible.

My dilema so far, has been the reputations of the crossfire & banner, because Ive heard good and bad things about them....and therefor, I have been considering going the used scope route...because I would prefer to get a used bushnell legend, trophy, or elite, over a new banner....but still have'nt decided totally.....which is why I wanted opinions about some high magnification cheap scopes.
 
LOL, I wouldn't be putting a cheap high magnifying scope on a .270. The recoil could throw it off then you wont hit the broad side of a barn. Keep the Burris 3x9 on it, If you can hit coyotes at 300 yards with that scope, a deer at 200 yards will be a piece of cake.
 
I have a Banner 6-24x40 on a few rifles and it is pretty decent for the price and holds zero well, but the highest caliber I have it on is 223, no idea how well it will hold up to the recoil on a 270.

I bet you have killed a pile of coyotes with that set up... Perfect for coyote stands :cool:

Actually, I didn't kill one or even hunt "yotes" for that matter, but that has never stopped me in the past from playing the all-knowing internet expert. :dancingbanana:

Keep it as is! that setup is just fine, think of it as practice. As it's been said if you can hit coyotes at whatever range, deer should be a walk in the park. Save the $200 for your dedicated .223.
 
Have a peek at the Simmons predator quest, a friend has one on his little weatherby and so far it's held up very well... It's a 30mm tube with side focus and I have seen them being sold for $300 with a nice little tasco range finder.
