Hey guys. Im new here and this is my first gun. Ive been around guns for a while, grandfather would go shooting with me from time to time. But this is my first actual firearm and I LOVE it. I bought it and an SKS as soon as I got my PAL. SKS is in parts on my bench after getting the cosmoline off and waiting for a new stock. But the 10/22 has been great. Ive fired maybe 300 rounds through it in the past week. It has no upgrades other than a cheap centre point scope I had on my pellet gun. I do have an Archangel Sparta stock on its way from HiCaliber and a 2nd mag and clamp from another retailer. They should both be in this coming week.
In all the other forums I'm on I always keep whatever it is I'm building in one thread and just keep updated that to keep is simple. Ill do that here as well.

So, my first post will be just a simple comment about my first mod to any firearm EVER. I did the bolt release mod on the 10/22. My gun was brand new when I got it and it was EXTREMELY easy to disassemble. The pins literally fell out. I was very surprised to learn the trigger assemble is plastic. Feels fine in the gun, but cheap when its out. Not a big deal.

Removing the release plate thing was easy. At first I was SO afraid of everything flying apart but once the pins came out nothing bad happened. I do ALOT of modding and customization with RC vehicles and am not afraid to cut into an $800 truck but if I get it wrong the truck doesnt work... no explosions or loosing of an eye.

I started by trimming little bits at a time and re-assembling, testing, going back to trimming. I used a dremmel with a diamond bit and it went smoothly. After about 3 tries I got it to the point where the bolt would slide forward without using the release so I stopped, smoothed out the trim job and put it all back together. Fits and works great.

Im extremely pleased with this gun overall and very happy that I could do a mod to it and have it work. Really, the gun itself is so simple. Im not nearly as afraid of it as i was before. Even though the Sparta stock comes with a new release plate anyway Ill be able to enjoy the gun more this weekend now that I've modded the stock one.

Isnt the Sparta for the mini-14? And the Nomad for the 10/22? Either way welcome to the club, I'd mention something about kissing your disposable income goodbye but seeing as youre into RC I can see you already have :p Keep fiddling with the 10/22 and it will keep getting better, theres lots you can do to the SKS too.
 
Sorry, its the nomad I'm talking about... your right.

Stock didnt come in today but I ended up at the gun shop (accuracy plus in peterborough) and got a few more steel lips mags and a cheap bi-pod so I can get the scope sighted in tomorrow if it doesnt rain. Its a nice looking gun as it is, but it needs the stock... I had to drill and tap the stock for the bi-pod but now I could use a sling if I wanted as well.

Got my Nomad kit on today. Man, this is the absolute coolest feeling gun I've ever held. I didnt have a chance to fire it tonight. But hopefully tomorrow afternoon ill get a chance.

The kit went together like butter... smooth creamery butter. I had already knocked the sights out of the barrel and receiver. They came out with just a few small taps. No big deal. The receiver and barrel literally FELL into the Nomad stock. Just a small tap on the top of the receiver and it dropped right into place. Ive read a ton of stories about them not fitting and needing to be pounded in. Mine fit like a glove.

The rest of it went together with NO surprises. All the bolts threaded smoothly, all the pieces lined up perfectly with NO gaps or anything that doesnt look perfect. I absolutely LOVE how it feels. Nice and tight and heavy. The clips are crap. Just my first impression but are hard to load and don't lock into the receiver well at all. You have to jam them in and wiggle them to get them to lock. They are hard to load and just don't feel smooth.

The Butler Creek steel lips, on the other hand, fit perfect and are easy to load. Only problem, they don't look nearly as nice as the Promags do. The curve of the BC mags is too sharp. But I can see that ill be using them most.

Unfortunately, the gun is locked in my brothers gun safe at the moment. (I don't have my PAL yet, should be in the mail). Ill get some pics tomorrow when we go out to shoot it. No upgrades at the moment but I have a red dot coming... only other thing I want to add is a fore grip. It doesnt need anything else that I can see.
 
Those are cool... not much looks stock on them. Ive had alot of time with my dremel and $1000 RC cars... I'm not afraid to cut into something. Especially when I know its a piece that can be easily replaced if I screw it up.

Glad you like the stock. The kits are all molded the same, its variations in the rifles that cause tight fits, the mags are all slightly oversize & designed to wear in as you use them. Spend a weekend shooting, then you should see them function nicely by the end!
 
So glad you posted here... thanks so much for great service. I picked up pretty much all my parts and upgrades from hical and have not been disappointed at all. Just placed another order today actually...
 
I FINALLY got around to taking a pic of my Nomad 10/22... I LOVE this gun. Its extremely fun to shoot and gets crazy looks from everyone who sees it.

All I've added other than the nomad kit is the fore grip and the sight.

Nice, BTW, once you break the mags in they will work alot better. take a look around for SleepyG's, and my Marauder builds, we've done em up good.... ;-) I replaced my handguard with an aluminum one, got a 12.5 .920 Dlask barrel, and replaced the rear stock (to stay length legal). I also have an angled foregrip, front handle/ bipod/ harris bipod that i switch around. I also got rid of the fake suppressor, and have a quick detach (mock ;-)) GemTech G5. It has two lugs on the flash hider that secure it on, just twist and "click", its on.....Oh, im rockin' an NC Star 3-9 (illuminated) tactical scope, and switch that out with a bushnell Equinox NightVision monocular for extreme "skunk/badger" extermination..... ;-)

these marauders are alot of fun..... When im feeling more conventional, i use my SS 10/22 with stock hammer forged .920 BBL. and Tasco 4-16x40 varmint, its my gopher gun of choice. i love my 10.22's!
