Anyone ever heard of a semi automatic Thompson in 22LR? I've seen a couple on american gun auction sites but never heard of one in Canada. Where they ever sold up here, or are they even legal to own?

If you're refering to the Thompson Center R-55 semi autos, I believe that they have been discontinued. You see them in the EE every now and then - actually there are a couple that just got recently posted. Supposedly very accurate.

No that not what i'm looking for, the rifle that i'm talking about is a replica Tommy gun made by Auto Ordinance in 22LR here is a pic pulled from gunauction.com

Would not likely be legal to own for you, as its most likely considered a variant of a prohibited firearm. The semi auto only auto ordinance rifles were legal at one time, but were prohibited in the late 90's approximately.

gee that is too bad, looks like a really fun 22 to shoot not to mention a good conversation piece.

The Auto Ordnance would be prohibited, as a variant of the Thompson SMG, as noted above.

However there are some excellent dressup kits that use a Ruger 10/22 receiver, which under Canadian law, makes it a 10/22 regardless of what it looks like.

When I first started collecting guns in the early 80's I had one, also had an original sudanese ar-10 that had the full auto selector switch but was converted to semi only. sadly i sold those when I had young kids. So the answer to your question is yes they were sold in Canada but as others have said they are prohib now, too bad.

I know they aren't the "original" you're looking for but might help you find the next best thing…
Hope this helps.
