8X57 bullet advice wanted

Howdy Folks! I purchased a PH in 8X57. The barrel has the 3 steps. Not sure of age. I would like to load 150gr rounds. What bullets would you recommend? I am partial to Hornady spire points. They work very well in my other rifles (other calibers) but it seems Euro loads use loooooong bullets.

Thoughts?

Flat base? I am kind of newbie. Do you mean Nosler flat base or just non-boat tail? Hard to find lighter bullets in 8x57.

My best results in the 8x57 have alwyas been with bullets from 175 grain up.
My present 8x57 loves the 195 Hornady and the 200 partition & Accubond.
150's shoot OK in some, but is pretty stubby in 8mm diameter.

They speak the truth, very wise as well, both of them.

Most 98s like flat base 200 grain bullets. Same goes for the 1888s.

The Europeans load their 8mms quite hot. Around 47,000 psi. The rifles seem to shoot best at those velocities a well. Probably due to the design of the barrel which is supposed to contain the harmonics with proper ammo.
 
i sold my 98k mauser that i snipered up with a replica authentic sniper scope from ww2,but i did get it shooting accuratley.1 moa at 100 anyhow,didnt go any further than that on paper.

it would only shoot 150s

i used hornady and sierra (slightly more accurate nod to sierra)150 gr spitzers

rem 91/2 primers
51.5 gr of rl 15 and rem brass.
 
My son's K98 shoots the Hornady 150's well. Found the best load works best with 49 gr of 4895 or 49.8 gr of 4064. We shoot open sights with it, and with those tow loads it is very accurate and consistent.
 
Generally, those military Mauser barreled actions are not super accurate, so, as others have suggested, the cheaper Hornady 170 grain soft points are a good choice. They have done well in the 4 or 5 Mausers I have tried them in.

this is going to sound oddball, but the best groups i got were with 196 grain ball from norma- like it was designed around the k-98

Accuracy...hmmmm. I see a lot of guys here touting 1" groups and less with whatever rifle. Funny... I see mostly pie plate stuff at the range. Where are these guys shooting? Better quality air...or sumthin!

handloads tuned to the rifle or the european norma stuff- the stuff as loaded by winchester( 170) or remington or some of the other n. american companies is loaded to low pressure and somewhat "sloppy" in the bore-
