The charter arms is junk so you aren't missing anything there.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying the Ruger SP101 as currently they aren't available in anything but a prohib.

The GP100 is a rock solid performer that will last a lifetime even with heavy loads. It's a great choice, and she will be happy.

I believe that Ted Dent has a 6inch S&W 686 for sale at a very attractive price. I'm sure that your GF would rather have 6 inches than 4.2 inches....

go SA stainless steel engraved and mother of pearl grips, uberti, pettia,us firearms. or get a ruger vaquero and modify it.(engraving /grips)

Go with a S&W 686 4.2. Lighter than Ruger, has a better trigger and an overall a nicer revolver. Yes, I had both.

I think you have your winner. My wife loves the GP100. So far she's only shot .38 specials in it but is more than capable of putting holes on top of holes even with the DA pull.

I have a S&W Model 60 in stainless. 5" barrel. Wish it were 4.25" though. 5 shot SA/DA. I swapped out the bird's head walnut grips for Hogue bird's head rubber grips. I fire 38 Special Plus P hollow points. Wife likes shooting this gun and can handle it with one hand. This, imo, is a great gun for women and anyone with small hands.

The GP100 is by no means a small handgun.

No, it's not small, but my 10 yr old daughter has no problem shooting it with .38 sp, and my 15 yr old loves it with .357.....

I'd say it's the one to get. Upgrade grip to wooden Hogue with finger grooves, and the girls like it even better than the rubber Hogue factory grips.

A...My own tastes steer towards the classic blued K frame guns such at the Model 14 and Model 19. With the half lug barrels found on these the feel of the balance is no worse than holding up a shorter 4.2 inch full underlug style revolver. And the longer distance between the sights definetly makes it easier to be more accurate.

Agreed! Certainly nothing wrong with the Rugers, but those classic Smiths are very nice indeed. Here's mine, a Model 14-3 in .38 Spec. (background gives away where I got it from!)

My GF last summer shot my S&W 586 better than any other handgun she tried. Remember there are also many options for grips. Probably many more for S&W than for Ruger.
