I am tempted to get a Mkll by Savage but I get all messed up by the different types available.

Can anyone explain the types and letters in a simple way?

Does something come with a Williams sight and a wood stock?

Would I be better off looking at a MKl or a trying to find something like a Cub, Rascal or Cadet? Do any come in adult stocks?

F: synthetic stock
G hardwood stock
B: laminate stock
SS: stainless steel
V: varmint/heavy barrel
L: left hand
AK: adjustable muzzle brake
BT: laminate thumbhole stock
C: detachable box magazine
NS: no sights
H: hinged floorplate
ML: muzzleloader
P: police
T: peep sights (rimfire)
XP: package gun
Y: youth

Joe just explained the letters, but what features, precisely, do you want? If it's full sized wood stock, mag fed repeater with Williams sights, I think you're out of luck. I don't think any come with Williams sights, actually. But they're easy enough to add on, in which case you would go for any of the Mark II series (mag fed repeater) that have factory iron sights and have the shop mount the Williams for you. Mark II G/GY/GL/GLY. If you want single shot, then Mark I G/GY or Rascal wood stock version if you want peep sights.

The FVT is the model with peep sights.

The "F" means you'll hate the stock and immediately try to get a Boyd's tactical stock, which apparently they are not shipping to Canada anymore.

I have the synthetic stock on my model 64 and with the exception of the molded trigger guard, I have no issues with it. It is relatively stiff when compared to several other light synthetic stocks I have handled and far more comfortable than the one that was on my PoS 597.

I'm over six foot and it's too short for me.
With a scope on the gun it's too low as well.
I put a Boyd's rimfire hunter stock on it and the rise in the cheek is a great improvement.
And it's real pretty too. I have to say, those Boyd's stocks look nice for the money.

The FVT (Mark I and II) has bulky target-style aperture sights (no mention if they are made by Williams). The Rascal (and the discontinued but still available Cub and Cadet) has low-profile peep sights (again, no mention of manufacturer). If the OP wants generic peep sights in an adult sized rifle, I think he could get the Rascal (or Cub or Cadet) and throw it in a full size wood stock.

Or perhaps the OP is looking for Williams fire sights.

The FVT looks perfect, if it only came in wood.

Does Savage sell regular hardwood or laminate stocks on their own?

The peep sights are Williams. On mine i can't get the rear sight adjusted downwards enough to zero in so i'm forced to creatively add height to the front sight insert (post type). The synthetic stock's only failing point is the low comb. Fortunately for me i bought mine off another nutter who installed a cheek riser which makes it perfect. Otherwise it is plenty solid.

I put a boyds thumbhole on my fvt and its way better now. I've set my sights for 50 yards and theres still room to adjust either way. It groups really well and is fun to use on reactive targets at 100 also.

Not a fan of thumbholes, should have bought one a few years ago. I'll keep an eye on the EE I guess. (or maybe I need another 17hmr :))

I was actually suggesting the BTVS for the heavy barrel/stainless action... fgor $140 you can drop it into whatever Boyd's stock you want. Including the Rimfire Target (BV). Then sell the thumbhole to recoup your stock cost.
