Remington SPS Longe Range

I have a SPS stainless in .270 win. It is far from my favorite rifle, The action is very rough, the bolt lug contact is very poor with only a small portion of one of the two lugs making contact. The bead blasting finish on it is too rough for my tastes. It shoots ok but is certainly nothing to write home about.

If I was to do it over again I would be looking at a Tikka T3, Weatherby Vanguard series 2, or a Winchester. I won't be buying any new manufacture Remington unless the quality control improves. The fit and finish simply isn't there in my opinion.

I'm really happy with the SPS Varmint in .243 that I just picked up recently. The first 12 shots out of the barrel included 2 to get on paper, and the next 10 went into two different groups that were roughly 0.5 and 0.75MOA.

The feel of the gun doesn't matter as much to me, it's accuracy that I want most. Seems the sps long range, and Varmint are in the same class. But the varmint model is only available in 308 for deer but I wouldn't hesitate to get a 308. On a local site someone has a sps varmint in 308 modified with a HS precision stock, bipod, and a Bushnell elite 3-21x40 for $1100 negociable. I this a good deal?

CDN- If you price it out: used SPS-V 500-550; stock 150-250 (not sure what stock & HS might be a little higher) ; bipod 75 again on brand, : elite 3-21 ?? (3.5-21 X50 is a tac. scope and is over 1100) so $725-$875 + the value of the scope & rings. These are retail prices and Just In My Opinion!!

I have an SPS Varmint in 223. I replaced the tupperware stock and received wonderful tight groups.

It was a bit rough at first, but now it is broke in...smooth as glass. No qualms about the trigger, but some guys are picky.

Mine has the 26" heavy barrel. To carry as a general hunting weapon...it is a pig and a half. That rifle requires a bipod as mandatory equipment and the drawback is that often one gets too low to the ground.

Mine for gophers and other varmints from a good shooting stick or hood of my Jeep...cannot ask for anything else. It is one sweet rifle.

sorry the scope is a 7-21x40 elite 3200 with mil-dot reticle. I looked around a bit and the scope was around $375-450(retail). On the HS precision website the stock is $400. I get at least $1400 that it's worth retail. It's only shot 5 boxes of bullets.

My sps varmint in .308 has shot a best of .23" centre to centre at 100m with hand loads. The accuracy potential is certainly there. If it were me I'd buy new and rig it myself so I knew what I had. Get the best optics you can possibly afford, you'll never ever miss the money.

not even close. savage is better all around than the rem 700. no matter what you put into a remington it is still just a remignton. thats after you have it accruized and blueprinted its just catching up to savage.

sorry to break you the bad news

The rem 700 is a better set all round than the savage. It doesn't matter what or how much you drop on a savage it's still just a savage.
