I am in need of creative input :)

Ive been looking at and trying to decide on what AR to buy for quite some time. This AR will be my first and presumably far from my last. Ive contemplated NEA's, Core's etc etc and am on the wait list for the Daniel Defense M4 V5. I hate that the DD rifle will have a welded FA and am more desiring of a 14.5 bbl rather than a 16.

Now Daniel Defense makes a mean rifle but I got to thinking that mabey I should just spend the extra 500-600 ish and get something that is rock solid and comes configured the way I would like it. This thinking lead me to the PWS MK114 which I think is a stunning rifle. I wouldnt change a thing!!

On the other hand the LMT Defender 2000 CQB MRP but those iron sites would have to go.

I would like to get some feedback on the two. I know they are both top level rifles but I know little of the pro's and con's of PWS' long stroke piston system and at the same time of having a free-float monolithic rail compared to one that is not!

Guide me to the light!! :)

Have not had the chance to play with a PWS.
But my LMT Def 2000 CQB fit to finish is awesome.
Over 1000 rounds of diff ammo......eats and spits
with out a hiccup. I have iron sights plus an Aimpoint M3.
My game is 35 meters and closer....so the 2 moa red dot works.

I think the problem with both those choices is the dealer.........

The LMT is a cheaper rifle than the PWS...in USD. But Questar sells it for more than the PWS.
You can import either yourself and save money

The PWS is a piston
and for a piston to weigh the same as the LMT means the LMT is a pig...built like a tank, but still a pig

I've owned several LMTs - they're awesome rifles. I've also heard nothing but great things about PWS, too. I think once you're into the $2k-ish range, options like Noveske/VLTOR, Adcor Defense, etc. also open up as well.

Yes ive read about this "dealer" and have my concerns also. Buying from a good vendor is definately a bonus!

Ya im prepared to wait to ensure that Im getting what I want. This is proving to be a long process as Ive been waiting for the DD V5 but dont know for sure that shes the one for me! Id be happy with the DD if I was willing to give it a rebarrel but would much rather buy the package as I want from the start.

Worst-case scenario it's not exactly what you're after - and you buy something else. The SR15 11.5" is also a nice option...

The KAC rifles are beautiful but its a lot to justify on a range toy. I do want a reliable, high performance rig but at a reasonable price around 2k. Are there any downsides to the long stroke piston set-up?

All the fun ones always are... (range toys). Well, if $2k is your budget - I'd probably suggest the PWS since it's pretty much good-to-go right out of the box. That or an Adcor upper and a custom lower (maybe a VLTOR, Noveske or Cadex).

I personally think the piston systems are slick. With the possible exception of the LMT (which is heavy like a tank), they're fairly lightweight - and will run cooler with less maintenance (any improvement in performance and reliability is still out with the jury...)

Im in the same boat too, The only thing I am considering about this two system especially the piston ARs (PWS), is that some parts are only availiable from the manufacturer, it might be a hassle to get the parts and acc in the the future.compared to the DI type (LMT)which are very common.

Ya I hear what your saying! Anyone know if getting parts and warranty service through the dealer in question is possible. Havent dealt with them before but have read the tales of frustration regarding service and lack thereof!
