I kind of like this SKS.

All numbers match and is in real nice shape. No ###### anywhere...

Enjoy!

Is it a 1955/56? I think I might see a tiny Tula star on the side of the receiver just down from the serial #s. If it is, the receiver cover would probably be blank (though there are a few very rare ones out there with a big Tula star on the cover, and no date).

I copied your 'side' picture and enlarged it for a better look. It is a 1955/56. The last model produced from a very short production period in late 1955 or very early 1956. Its also a bit rarer still because of it being an original hardwood stock. They introduced the laminate stock in 1955 and many of the 1955/56 used the mainate stock, though not all. Its a very nice rifle in very nice condition. I've got one myself, though up for sale at the moment.

Question: Is the magazine 'franken-pinned'? Hole drilled in bottom and big peg inserted?

Here's mine:

Yes. There is a tiny star on the side of the receiver. And...yes, the magazine is Franen-pinned. At least the numbers on the bottom of the mag match...lol

Yup. Must be a newer import then. You should look it over and see if it shows any signs of refurbishment. If the stock is original hardwood, which it seems to be, then I would suggest it just might be a non-refurb, possibly un-issued, rifle. If its non-refurb/un-issued, it would probably be worth a few dollars more to a collector if left in original condition and unfired.

I bought mine just because I liked it. But when I managed to pick up a second one for $100, I decided to leave my nice one unfired and original, as an investment. With the wife having to go into the hospital for surgury last week, I had to offer it up for sale.

Hey, I hope she's ok.

It is unfired and non-refurb/issued for sure. No signs of anything other than original. Good point on not firing it.

Hey, I hope she's ok.

She's doing great, thanks. But she's off work for a couple of months.

If you were looking for a shooter, you could probably trade yours unfired to a collector for a regular refurb + some cash. Would help keep a nice rifle in original condition, and get you a nice shooter real cheap.

I wouldn't have a clue what it's worth though.

Where did you buy it? If I had an all original non-refurb, I'd be buying a refurb to shoot... That SKS you have is a wonderful collectors piece. Hmmm There's something most of us never though would be said in the same sentence "SKS" and "collectors piece"

Got it from Lanz. I might have to buy another to shoot, cause I don't think I'll be shooting this one.

Problem is, I bought it cause of the great price, now I'll have to by another. (or just sell this one) lol
