Notice to S&W M&P 15-22 Rifle Owners

Wrong

The BDM 26 round mags do not work in the S&W M&P 15-22. Neither the Questar Advert or the BDM site states that. This has been discussed before.

Regards.

Well, finally received my new reistration after having my 25 round mag pinned at 10 and VERIFIED.

Guess I am safe (for now) from the 'boys' kicking the door some night and looking for something...

Got mine new certificate too. Turns out north sylva was right in town so they verified it for me. The cert ends in .0002 now

I just surrendered mine. Already had two 10/25s
By the time I paid the 10 bucks and shipping costs,
it wasn't worth the time, effort and costs.

For the most part I wouldn't expect too much depreciation. Most used Canada 15-22 sell close to their original price on firearms Canada. Asides from the whole magazine fiasco it’s a really well made, reliable and fun little rifle. I'm holding onto mine with the hope that someone (not s&w) might make 20 or 25 or 30 round magazines that will be legal. There is enough hoopla over this 10 round magazine issue for some ambitious manufacturer to cash in on it? If the Ruger bx-25 mags are legal maybe s&w can make a 20 or 30 mag. I would be happy with a 20, 50 round drum mags just are too expensive for what you get.
I wanted to order 4 BX-25 Ruger mags for my new SR-22 and was told they were 'prohibited devices'. I called CFC and was confirmed that "Ruger acknowledged they work just fine in their Challenger pistol" so RCMP applied the prohibited device designation. If you buy BX-25's in the States and bring them home, you are in for a whole world of hurt if they get discovered.

I went out and bought 4 Butler Creek Steel Lips instead.

What are your reasons for getting rid of yours ?

ahh...i need snow tires.

mind you, i love the little rifle..i'm sure its readily available if i want one back. i'm keeping all the accessories i've put on.

however, so far, only one enquiry, an the guy went for something else. not sure if this will open up another 'can of worms' if we are stuck with them.

Apparently I was sent a letter at the end of August, though I'm in Afghanistan so haven't read it. I contacted the CFP about this over a month ago because I pinned my mags myself and wanted to know if this would be legal, sent follow up emails and was told last week it was again forwarded to the proper department and still nothing heard back -.-

This is getting annoying.

hooray for CFO.

I got through to them via email. my concern is that i had 'surrendered' my 25 round magazine to the local authorities (without a property receipt) and i'm using the 10 round magazines now. all i had to do was:

"Please confirm in the e-mail that you have surrendered to the police your 25 shot magazine and as mentioned below that you are using the 10 shot magazine. Based on your confirmation / declaration, we will then amend the information in the system and send you a new reg certificate as confirmation."

I may end up keeping my rifle.

GUUURRR this is soo silly for M&P owners!!!!
Because if this, I didn't buy the M&P. It's a great gun but I feel a ten round mag is abit small. The drum has issues.
Could S&W make a new mag so this law isn't an issue?

you can probably try to look for a 25 round magazine, that isn't manufactured by smith and wesson. if i keep my rifle, that will be my route.

So the 15-22 is restricted and now limited to 10 rds, but this little thing is non-restricted.....

How does this make any sense?

Bureaucracy in action.

It's really a legislative issue not a bureaucratic one. The Regulations to the Criminal Code are the authority for these absurd decisions. (Although the RCMP classifiers always seem to make the strictest possible interpretation if the regs are vague, which they often are.) The Regs don't make any sense. Anyone who doubts that the monkeys are running the zoo should read them.

I can easily visualize those meetings when the regs were crafted. I'm sure RCMP brass appeared with lists of things that they recommended prohibiting or restricting. They would have presented themselves as firearms authorities and technical experts. The politicians, then as now, knew nothing about the subject but nodded sagely so as not to display their ignorance. Obviously no one with a grasp of the topic or any useful experience was permitted in the room. It was the perfect storm of arse-lickers and fools. From this unhappy alliance came the firearms laws we have today.

But when we purchased the rifle the mags where fine or did the RCMP drop the ball as well when they looked at it. So they just turned hundreds or more law abiding citizens into criminals. In my opinion we should all receive prohib status because we purchased the weapon within the guidelins set by the RCMP.
