Best way to clean SVT-40 for the first time?

Hi everybody,

I recently just bought a SVT-40 and was wondering if any of you had some advice on the best way to clean her for the first time? Are there any specific solvents or techniques you would use?

X2 and I use an air compressor with one of the basketball air filling needles on it to put into tight places and air blast all the gunk out, works GREAT!

For a through clean of the trigger assembly pop the safety lever out and get in there. It's always missed and gets filled with crud and corrosion : /

Make sure to take the bolt apart and check the spring. Its probably old and rusted and will fail first trip to the range. Ask me how I found that out.. Otherwise, scrap her down and give her a good going thru, it'll help familarize yourself with the weapon. Have fun and happy shooting.
