22-250 with H380

I want to knows if someone among you had try the receipe 38gr of H380 with a bullet of 52gr. What is your results?

If memory serves me correct, the powder got its name because there were two men using 38.0 grains and getting 3800 fps.
The loading books I consulted do not suggest these results can be duplicated. Richard LEE shows 3719 with 38.0 grains with a 50 grain bullet.
Sierra recommends keeping velocities under 3600 fps with 50 - 55 grain bullets.
Sierra's acuracy load with 55 grain bullets is 38.0 grains of H380 giving 3500 fps.

Horseman you almost got it right
Hodgdon tried 38 grains of h380 in a 22.250 and he got a .380" 5 shot group .

38.0 grains of H380 with 52-55 grain bullets have been a favourite of mine since the early 70's. I've put together thousands of them.

I often snicker on how newer loading books now claim loads used for many years by many people are no longer safe.

As for Speed, Your mileage may vary on different barrels on how much fps you can get.

It really depends on the bullet and you barrel twist on how fast you can push a bullet without it twisting apart. on a red line load with the 22-250 I had a 55gr. vmax could be pushed to 3750+ and still achieve about .75 MOA which really isnt' saying much when shooting a 22-250 at a 100yards.

I agree with sierra's accuracy load which I used (55gr. bullet and 35.4gr. of 4064 if I recall correctly) could not of been much more than 3550-3600fps.

39.5 gr H-30 over a 55 gr bullet always worksed for me.

Ya i burned out the barrels of several 22-250`s over the years with H380. It was my favorite for that round, i need to build another if i ever get my numerous other projects done.

I load .22-250 for a co-worker, but he wants lower velocity so that his bulk bullets work on caribou. His load is 36 grs of H-380 with a 55 gr Corelokt.

I burned up a lot of H380 in several 220 Swifts over the years.
Usually 42-43 grains behind the 55 grain Hornady or Sierra.
Gave 3880 -3950+ and superb accuracy.
This powder also works well in my 225 Winchester with heavier bullets.

I use 40.6 of H380 and Hornady 55grn bullets. SP and Vmax.

Work great in my BDL 22-250. Made mist out of lots of gophers! Also used on coyote, raven, crows, wolf, deer and black bears. Best tool on the farm.
