So took the FCP-SR out today and the ammo I got was American Eagle 150gr FMJ. Sadly I didn't buy any other brands. At 200 yards the rounds were literally all over the target. This was a rifle with a bipod and rear sandbag at 200 yards. I shot the rifle at 100 yards a couple months back an the rifle was a tack driver. So now I have two boxes of AE 150gr that my rifle does NOT like. :(

Wondering if the 150gr might be too light for the 1:10 twist?

?????????

Ummm.....10 round magazines? Rapid fire from the hip!

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Shooting cheap factory ammo isn't necessarily a recipe for success. Garbage in = Garbage out.

Not losing sleep over it, just disappointed that I bought three boxes of this crap. AE .223 worked fine in my Bushmaster so I figured I'd at least get something decent out of the .308, but it was making only about 4" groups at 200 yards.

I might try a different brand and something a tiny bit heavier and see if it approves.

2MOA is acceptable accuracy for that ammo, considering it's a FMJ bulk bullet to begin with. Not the ammo's fault. Your expectations were just higher than what the ammo could expect to deliver under the circumstances.

Do you reload at all? .308 Win. is a very easy cartridge to load for and make accurate.

Try s&b 147gr fmj. My savage 308 shot them MOA and since I rebarrelled to a rock creek 1 in 11.25 it shoots them .5moa. For cheap stuff it works well and the brass is very nice for reloading as well. Reloading IS the answer though.

Ok so my rifle doesn't like Nosler Trophy Grade Accubond 165gr either. Had the gun strapped into my gun rest and once again, 6-7 inches at 200 yards.

I really wish I was set up for reloading :(

I was hoping to try Match Grade ammo from various manufacturers but no one in my area carries any of it.

Wait until you have a few more rounds down the pipe before you get too dejected.

I have a Savage 10BA which shoots groups as small as 1/2" at 200yds.
What I have found is that my rifle likes heavier bullets.
My choice of bullet is the 180gr Sierra Matchking.
The 1-10 twist of the Savage can handle almost any weight bullet and the 180gr is usually much easier to find in stock than the 168 or 175gr.
My rifle also likes to be shot dirty.
I just cleaned it after another 150 rounds. Rounds # 112-116 produced a sub 1/4 MOA group.
I only cleaned it so I can start taking more accurate notes on all of my shots.

I reload on a $129.00 Lee 50th anniversary kit with a set of the Deluxe Lee dies.
Total cost of this setup is under $250 including a cheap digital scale.
For $40.00 you can buy 100 175 or 180 grain Sierra Matchking bullets.
$6 for 100 benchrest primers and $30.00 for 1 pound of Varget which can load somewhere between 160-170 rounds.

That along with your existing brass which you should have kept since its now fireformed to your rifle and you're ready to start loading.

Good news is that accuracy problems are unlikely to be because of the rifle. The AE ammo is bulk stuff best in my opinion for M14 plinking and I recommend trying a box of FGMM to establish a benchmark. Before putting more rounds down the pipe though you may want to check scope to ensure it is on properly etc and sometimes t is the smallest stuff that is the easiest to overlook.

Why would that be a problem? The rear stock of the gun gets strapped into the rest and the who rest moves on dampeners to absorb the recoil. Worked perfect when I was using it with my Savage 111 in .270 win

Any rest assembly that restricts the rifles ability to recoil the same for every shot , can cause accuracy issues. Clamping or strapping a rifle into a rest sometimes does this.

I wanted FGMM but none of the places around here stock it so or any other "match grade" ammo. So I'm currently SOL on that.

I've also swapped the scope for something else just in case it was a scope problem and checked the base as well.

My rest does allow free recoil with the rifle strapped into it. I don't think it's the rest though. I've used the rest before with very good results. I've also shot it with using bipod while prone an got the same results.

Its the ammo, not made for precision. Pull a couple of bullets and weigh your charges, if you don't wanna do that, measure run-out on the loaded round... measure a pulled bullet....... ect ect ect. That will answer your question. The second biggest part of the precision game is your ammo, eliminate as many variables as possible by shooting ammo that is both loaded to "match" each other while being tuned to shoot in your rifle.
