Last saturday I stoped at garage sale sign and spotted two pig bars 25lbs ea of linotype! For $1 a lb I bought it so quick my wallet did jump out of my pocket on it's own! Better jet the guy said his dad has 10 more of them and sure enough today I bought them all. So now I have approx 450lbs of linotype or couple of lifetime supplies! The lesson for all of us hoarders is....never pass by the garage sale no matter how obscure it looks like. :)

Either Rivet 78C has a hidden supply or is in a position to pick the stuff up cheap. Might just be sower grapes as well.

I would have bought that linotype as well. Mind you I do have some very squeaky cheap bones and might have offered less to take it all off the fellow's hands.

Now, all you have to do is trade for some pure lead or wheel weights and you're good to go.

It's nice to never have to worry about stuff like linotype again. It's getting more and more expensive as well as hard to find. I used to really like Babbit but it's now very expensive and can only be found on special purchase. Found a couple of 100 pound pigs of it 10 years ago and it's almost all gone.

Are you going to the Vernon Gun Show???

I am looking forward to be at Vernon and Salmon Arm Gun Show as well. Yes Gerard I tried to get better price but the guy was firm. Mind you in one $25 bar there is 1lb of tin ($18/lb), 3lb of antimony ($14/lb) and 21lb of lead ($.85/lb) so I got it for 30c on the dollar. I use +/- 50lb a year casting for my; 38sp, 357Mag, 35Rem, 358Win and my shotguns so my stash of over 1000lbs of w-w will last me for the long. long time.

I pick it up at any price when ever I can, actually it is easier to get than wheel weights if my supply is any indication. Makes great cannon balls.

Cannon balls out of linotype? What a waste. Cannon ball made of linotype will shatter into the dust when shot against the rock or metal plate. If the ball needs to be that hard you would be better off to water drop w-w or useing the zink instead and recover them.

Yes, for fishing. Can tire sell their 10lbs balls for about $40 around here.

I still have about 2.5 tons left and cost me less than what WW end up costing after running around, paying/bribing and with what you end up with after sorting and melting. It seems you have to be doing the shop owners sister to even be considered for the waiting list, at least here on the island.

I am now making lead shot for my trap shooting needs so a lot will be used to harden up what ever junk I can scrounge. The first batch was made from the indoor range butts lead and being mainly .22 lead it was soft so the lino was a good hardener.
