There is a really good deal being offered over at 24hrCF:
Prices include trophy fees! I especially like the fact you can take you child/grandchild and get them in on the action too.

Kanana is 100,000 Acres of privately owned game farm situated in pristine Kalahari Bushveld roughly 250km SW of Maun, Botswana. The property holds an over abundance of game. All accommodation is full board in Motswiri Lodge - the luxury tented safari camp situated in the heart of Kanana Wilderness.

That seems too cheap for Botswana to be a quality hunt, I'd be very leery of that one. We all know the saying.

I was thinking that, but as you are aware hunting is being/has been shut down on public land. I suspect that news is decimating the safari industry in Botswana. Obviously caveat emptor applies, but I haven't heard of anyone complaining about the agent.

Given that Botswana is closing it's doors to hunting in the Okavango (and likely everywhere else in short order) this represents the last kick at the can for people to hunt in this area.

Normally I hate "package" hunts as there is usually stuff in the package that I have no interest in hunting. That said, this package is pretty well balanced in terms of meat and potatoes. I note that the person offering the hunt said later in the thread that there is no refund for animals not taken and there are no substitutions. That said, if you figure roughly $300/day for daily rates and $1150 for Eland, $1150 for Kudu, $850 for Zebra, $500 for Gemsbok, $350 for Blue (great deal) and $640 for Hartebeest you've got yourself a screaming deal - almost $1K off his list prices. The only thing I'd want to do is add 2-4 days more hunting. It's foolish to go that far for such a short period.

Add airfare of $4400 from Calgary to Maun (based on departure on July 30, delay the trip until late September and the cost is $3100) and you're still done the whole thing for under $11K before shipping and taxidermy. Pretty reasonable way to hunt Africa and collect a bunch of common game for under $15K. Also consider that you don't pay for an African hunt in one shot, rather you pay the deposit now, airfare in a couple of months (assumign a decent time frame), balance at completion, freight on trophies after that and taxidermy up to 18 months later. You can spread it out over a long period of time.

Someone needs to take this, or I'll be pissed!

He said:
No refund but the animals would be carried over to another hunt if you rebooked for another safari.

and

Unfortunately no, there might be a little room to swap out for one animal of the same price but this package is so good that there will not be much changing of the package.

It is, imo, a really nice balanced package. The problem with carrying over is that, as you point out, Botswana may close all hunting in the near future and then it becomes a moot point.
