Here's my weaver base I installed on my tight fitting spare SKS reciever/dust cover. What works and has the same curve of the cover is the weaver 40a top mount base used on the remington 700 and various other guns.

I used the star that is on the cover as my first hole(it looked like center) then tapped it and screwed it in to get a reference for my second hole. I then loctited the heck out of it and dremmeled the screw ends that were sticking out on the other end.

It looks very square I am very happy on the way it turned out. I just need to figure out which reddot/greendot to put on it (I can even still use the iron sights with nothing mounted). The project cost me about 45 minutes of time and the base which cost $4.39:).

I see alot of horror stories on here about that and I also use the trimount cover setup as well and from bouncing around in the truck all spring it held zero every time I tried it (non corrosive ammo), I took the time to make sure it was a snug fit etc.

I want to try a small micro reddot on this weaver setup that way it is low mounted and light. It should shave about 2-2 1/2 pounds off my present bulky setup.

Very slick. Definitely want to add a receiver mount on my SKS but I'm concerned about the combined height of the railed dust cover and optics. This is certainly a low profile solution. I'm also planning to tap and bolt the cover in place via the take down pin to take care of any zeroing issues. It's hard for me to tell but from the pics it looks like the piece of weaver rail conforms nicely to the contour of the dust cover. Was that the case? or did you have to do some prep work? Sorry, if that's a newb question but I'm very new to the shooting world.

Thanks.

It fit perfectly no modifications, I will be looking at doing something similiar with bolting the pin if zero isnt held with a little redot setup.
