Well I'd like to try this scope. Really like reticle, weight fact you get nice lens lids etc but hate the zombie crap on it. Question is has anyone found a way to rid of the zombie stuff on it without wrecking finish? Of course a guy could paint it, don't really want to do that. A friend tried brake cleaner said it didn't do anything so what the heck ask here maybe someone has found a way??

Sure could order a vx-r with red reticle but I actually like the green just not the whole zombie gig...

Apparently the Zombie printing on the side of the scope can come off with proper solvent as Leupold warns you about this during cleaning. The turrets and inside the flip covers have been lazered so there is nothing to come off. I'm with you that I would remove the printing on the side. The Zombie is a better deal than the patrol because you get an extra turret (one for .223 and one for .308) and both Alumina flip covers. The turrets are worth about $50 and the set of flip covers are $100...all for about $30 more than the regular patrol. We had sell outs on all the Zombie scopes and have several more on back order. Phil.

You get about $150 worth in extras for $30 more than the regular patrol, how is that not a better deal?

Then you're wrong. :) Lots of people would still get them if that were the case. Have you not been paying attention to the Zombie fad lately? Hornady Z-Max, zombie targets, etc. It's in vogue right now, and Leupold is cashing in on that.

Well, I'm not that in to it either, but I like to pay attention to things happening in the world of firearms and firearms accessories. However, it is an effective marketing ploy. What I see Leupold doing with their Zombie scopes is probably one of the best executed promotions I have seen. Not only was it timely, but they throw in a bunch of extras, capturing an enlarged audience, and promote a new product line (the VX-R Patrol series of riflescopes). All I can say is "Bravo Leupold marketing department".
 
Just spoke with the Leupold International rep and there may not be anymore Zombie scopes coming. Hope our order was in before the cut off. Phil,
 
Really?, did they say why Phil?

Hopefully they'd consider a green vxr patrol reticle option. Honestly that's the "ONLY" reason for me the green shows up way better for my eyes then the red.
 
It is brake fluid you want to use, often the paint they use for printing is silk screened and comes off very easily with a little on a q-tip. Don't let it soak on and try an inconspicuous spot first.

Care to explain? The Zombie thing is a selling point for many, and the extras you get with it make it a fantastic value. They've sold out everywhere, the release is well timed with other similar products (Z-max) and demand is still high. How is this not a successful promotion?

Explanation:
If they gave the free stuff with the regular VXR Patrol, do you think they'd sell many Zombie ones? Probably not, hence the added stuff to help the sale.

That's my opinion, which may be completely worthless and incorrect. We done? :)
