CZ 858 Railed Dustcover (PICS)

I am contemplating either this item or the NEA cantilever scope mount and railed stock adaptor. My intent is to put a fixed power compact scope on it. Can anyone comment on which item would work better for my needs? Works out to similar price so thats not a factor and I don't want to go the drill and tap route. Thanks.

Curious,
(1) Is it long enough for a red-dot plus 3x magnifier?
(2) Likewise is it "forward" enough to provide sufficient eye relief for a 1-4x scope?

Well, you are right. This railed dustcover can be delivered for about $340.00
So as long as you are prepared to install the NEA railed stock adapter and you either have or buy an AR tube to fit it, and you like the straight look of the AR style butt, then the price is relativity the same; possibly in favor of the railed dustcover mind you.

But the NEA route would raise your check up on the butt it may be a little harder to get your cheek low enough ,maybe not though.

I can see some advantages in being able to remove the cantilever if you want to simply use your irons. Both options are good it really is just up to you and your preference.

Personally I'm going with the dustcover option.
It will be here any day now!!

I'm having difficulty finding the right compact scope. I have a Hi-Lux reddot now, but don't like red dots because I'm red-green colour blind.

I was going to get the NcStar compact, but the comments here claim it's garbage. So won't be going that route. Swiss Arms makes a small compact mil-dot scope, but that's only supposed to be for airsoft. Then there is this:

Perfect for what Im looking for, except the price is damned high. So won't be this season.

1: no. I suppose you could put the red dot over the back iron site, then put the muliplyer on the railed dustcover.

2: depends on the scope.

I really think the only way to avoid spent casing from hitting the scope is to keep just a red dot or very compact scope on it and thats it.
Scope will interfere with the ejection port, best to keep something small on it.

It sucks that compact 3x or 4x scope choices are quite limited, especially mid price range and not pre-calibrated for 5.56 or 7.62 NATO.

do you think a Elcan Spectre DR would fit on this and would you recommend this over the NEA cantilever mount?

note already have a M4 but on it

Ok, So I finally received my railed dustcover from ZAHAL. However... It was drop-shipped from the Czech Republic... So, I ended up paying an extra $70 bones Canadian in Duty and Taxes for this little puppy.
There were more postage and stickers and rip marks and tape holding this package together than I've ever seen on any other before.
At least I finally have it,,,and it's awesome.. So in the end, this little 858 is staring to rack up the costs. LOL
Time hit the range..
Bout time!
I've been dying to sight in this HD7... Pictures on their way after this weekend.

When you're taking pics, can you take one as though you're looking from the back of the rifle. i would like to see how it mates to the stock at the rear.

I belatedly second the motion. I'm interested in this railed dustcover for our new VZ58 and use a red dot that has a quick release, whose quick removal will allow the use of the irons.

you can still use the irons with the railed dustcover. No need to remove it. It is just pinned in the rear of it like the normal dustcover.

I wasn't very clear. I meant that the irons could not be used with a red dot installed. Remove the red dot, leave the railed dustcover on and use the irons.

Actually maybe there are red dot mounts that would, like some scope mounts, leave enough space underneath the red dot to use the irons. But in that case the red dot is almost certainly going to obstruct at least some of the field of view. (But so does a side mount system, I would imagine.)

Alright, so I got the camera up and running again and here are the pics people have been wanting to see.

Mounted with a Vortex Sparc & Magnifier

I really do love this set up. Sparc is at perfect height for me and is so easy to pick up on a fast acquisition. Follow up shots are a breeze, and it really hasnt added that much more weight. No I have not weighed it but it doesnt seem that much different.

Very nice set-up, including wood (although I would have gone with a dark stain;)).

Not to go too far OT here, but how do you like the Sparc with and without the magnifier? In particular, does the FOV really narrow with the magnifier? How close do you have to place your eye to the magnifier and, at that distance, does the recoil ever cause the magnifier to hit your eye or anything near it? When the target is at what range do you install the magnifier, and do you find that the magnifier really helps you improve your accuracy compared to using the sight without the magnifier?

Thanks.

first off, dark stain like my rpk version!?!?!?!?!?!?

Love the sprac, the magnifier doesnt really narrow your veiw to much. Your eye is close to the optic with the magnifier in place but if you hold tight during firing it doesnot come in contatct with your eye/glasses.
I use the mag at any range if I choose
