I took my family to the Debert Military Museum yesterday. I was surprised at how much my wife enjoyed it. She said she's like to go back without the kids (3 and a terrible 2 year old!) and look at some more. There were dozens of albums of pictures that have been donated over the years. It was free but they take donations.

Apparently I missed three rifles that were behind me when I took this. My wife informed me when we got back home and looked at the pics. :(

This room was in honour of the local lumber industry which helped build the camp in 1940. These aren't milsurp but they were old and interesting.
1000 Carpenters, 1600 labourers, 200 steam fitters, and 100 electricians built the camp. They earned 35 to 60 cents a day.

There was a large hospital at the camp. This is a room mock-up.

Sadly, I don't know what this is. Someone will know I'm sure. *I've been told it's a German MG08/15. Thanks bussche.

This was a Cold War era status map.

Some sort of trainer. I couldn't get a good look at it to read what it was.

Authentic Nazi Dagger. I think it was a vet bring back.

I think these are called ramparts? Correct me if I'm wrong but they appear to have been used to protect small brick buildings (maybe weapons stores) from air, rocket or missile attack.

The famous Deifenbunker. Sadly you cannot tour it anymore as it is sold to a computer company. It now houses precious computer servers... :bsFlag:

My pleasure. It's right on Plains Rd. (the main drag in the big city of Debert)

There is no admission! But there is a donation box that I threw a little cash in. It was well worth it and would be a sin for it to close. I don't think they are very busy. It was an overcast Saturday and their last visitor signed the guest book 2 weeks ago!

is the military rifle range still in debert ? it was a 600m range .
i took a small arms coaching course there waaaaay back in 1983. ( when in the reserves )

Yeah, it's still there.

I have heard that in recent years there have been a couple target shooting competitions held there but that last year they didn't have one.

The rumour is there will be one there again this summer. I'm keeping in touch with a fellow CGN'er who has shot there and hope to go watch if it happens.

I'll have to pay a visit this summer. I toured the Deifenbunker as a young boy (Royal Canadian Air Cadets) back in the early 70's. It was a very neat experience. Too bad it's now closed to the public.
Also flew into the Debert airport a couple times as a kid pilot. I was 17 and had a fresh pilot's licence in 1974.

that "trainer" is a "Swift training rifle" Have three variatrions. Thought up by the RAF to give the army something to laugh at. It requires a target frame. pulling the trigger drove a needle into a paper target. needless to say the targer was almost touching the rifle.
