Camp Debert Military Society Museum (Pic Heavy)

Very nice collection they have, where abouts is this museum ?

You are right about the MG, it is a Maxim MG08/15.

This museum is in Camp Debert Base, in Debert Nova Scotia. It's a very small base in Central Nova Scotia just to the north west of Truro about an hours drive from Halifax.

that "trainer" is a "Swift training rifle" Have three variatrions. Thought up by the RAF to give the army something to laugh at. It requires a target frame. pulling the trigger drove a needle into a paper target. needless to say the targer was almost touching the rifle.

I thought it looked odd. I'm pretty sure the 'magazine' was made of wood.

There were Rampart like facilities where the ammo buildings stood. I think they are blast walls. I was there in 75 and there were a bunch of the buildings sitting in the center of three sided Blast walls. They were arranged in semicircles with the opening facing the out, so if one building went up its blast wouldn't effect the other ones. Similar to this [_] The buildings had ramps and overhead tracks to load and unload munitions. I never go to the underground facilities if there were any.

The airforce used to park aircraft in positions with blast walls for protection. Just another option.

The training rifle is a Long Branch version of the Swift Training Rifle.
That's all I can add.

Thanks, it'll be on my list for places to see the next time I am in the Halifax area.

Did you say you can't tour the Diefenbunker anymore because a computer company bought it and it is housing servers!?

They bought (and someone sold!) a piece of history to store f**king electronics in and now you can't go inside anymore?!

Jesus wept! :(

Thanks for all the pics though. Very cool.

The Diefenbunker I know is in Carp Ontario and as far as I know it's still open.

Is there another govt bunker in Nova Scotia?

Yup. We got our very own.

I'm not sure if all the cold war era bunkers are called Diefenbunkers or what. Around here, the Debert bunker has always been called the Diefenbunker.
