Anyone Heard of North American Arms Co?

Just got in a nice North American Arms co Grizzly No 10 in .22lr. (NAACO)
A single shot rifle.

It says "Made in Toronto".
Has anyone ever heard of them?

What years are we talking?
Are the just re-labelled from someone else?

Seems to be a nice little 22.
Beautiful bluing, a nice hardwood stock and metal furniture.

They were not just a stamp, but a complete manufacturer. I've seen both, single shot, and repeating .22's. Possibly a .22 Mag as well. I think they made others, but I haven't seen 'em.

Kind of neat, in that the difference between a single shot model, and repeater is only the addition of the bottom metal, magazine, and cutout in stock. Same receiver and bolt. They grooved for rimfire scope too.

Good, accurate .22's. Not nearly as common as the venerable Cooey.

NAACO made a repeater ?...:redface:
 
NAACO made
model 5-single shot/hinged action shotguns in 12, 16, 20, and .410
Model 10&30 are single shot .22's
model 20 is a repeating .22 (basically same gun with bottom metal, magazine, and stock to fit them)
Model 40 is a repeater in .22Mag

If you buy a barrel from Numrich for a .22lr it will be stamped "20" regardless of single shot, or repeater

(all the above stolen from my 1998 Numrich catalogue, cat#22 pg. 492)

The manf. dates I provided were from "google-fu"...I haven't found the "blurb" I referred to yet....

I've also found references to NAACO building a handgun in .45 (guardian)

Little curious m'self...

There have been a few North American Arms (as I found when trying to google earlier) that are not of the same origins, or affiliated.

Is it marked Toronto at all??
 
I'm not at home right now, but if memory serves me correctly it is just marked Made in Canada.

I have done some searching in the past, but not much comes up, but I have had a few hits from Sako owners websites, so there are a few out there.

It'd be cool to find out! Made in Canada is a pride thing...being on a Sako is also a pride thing!(fine rifles).

Uh oh...that'll only de-value a fine Coburg arm (all GTA please giggle...not lookin for a shiner!)

Honestly, when I have Cooey questions I nag a few other CGN'ers before touching Google. (y'all know who you are, and have my gratitude).
 
I have 5 of them, all work great. I kinda like them, Canadian and all.

Model 10, real nice wood, only one I've seen with factory checkering,scoped and accurate

2 Model 20's both in good shape and work well now replace firing on one, the other one switched mag now it feeds well,I have not done allot of shooting with either but they seem accurate enough with CCI SV's

Model 30 which is the single shoot target model with Lyman 57, and 17 sights it was bedded and I shimmed the trigger, it is a great little gun and I believe somewhat rare.
It cost double the others I asume the cost of the sights.

Model 40 22 Mag, this was the last one I got. I don't believe this one was shot much. It was a late production one actually it is marked Globe Firearms as they bought up the old stock when NAACo went out of business. It has a scope that is marked Globe as well but needs a magazine, Numrich has the Magnum magazines.

All my google-fu could come up with was the current US company that makes pistols, called North American.

My model 10 is very nice for a .22 indeed.

I've seen one model 10 with checkering at the Orangeville gun show. Thought somone did it themselves. Looked factory to me.

Here's a picture of a Nacco model 10 that I built for my daughter for her birthday. The back end of stock was cracked and front sight dovetail was damaged so I figured why not just shorten it for my daughter. Barrel was cut at 19",shortened the stock by 2.5" and shortened the forend 2". I also reshaped the pistol grip for her little hands. With CCI Blazers it will shoot 1/2" groups at 50 yds.
Attached are a before and after picture. Didn't have the butt plate on for the after pic.
Total cost including scope $110 and a bit of my time.

I have 3 spare stocks and a number of extra extractors and firing pins. I also have a NAACO catalog it is kinda neat, as it shows some pics of the factory on Birchmount Dr in Scarborough.
