3 gun rig - what are the basics?

Can you point to a little more information... Rules, equiptment requirements, courses of fire typically presented...etc
Are they actually 3 gun matches?

This topic has come up several times before and many have expressed interest in action shooting with 22lr, this may get started in this part of the country too.

The rules are simple. Watch your muzzle direction, obey the RO, have fun. Your typical procedurals are in play for not following course of fire(firing over windows/ports instead of through, failing to engage a target etc etc).

Equipment is whatever you want. Obviously a more rounded out setup will serve you better than stuffing mags in pockets but both are acceptable.

Courses of fire vary from year to year. Anything goes, two guns, three guns, sometimes just one per stage. Other props are used as well.

As for "are they actually three gun matches?" I'm not sure what you mean. You do use all three systems but not necessarily all three on all stages. They're not "sanctioned" matches by any governing body if that's what you're asking.

I have been doing some 3 gun shooting at Ponoka and WRAS. Yes some guys have the vest and webbelt. I am old school and cheap. I use my IDPA approved holster and mag pouches which attach to my normal pants belt. I wear a cargo pants to stuff in the rifle mags and spare shotgun shells. I have a attachment that goes on the buttstock to carry shotgun shells. It is available at most hunting stores.

I find going really simple, I am able to shoot and have fun, without the big expense and bulk of a cargo vest/webbelt system.

Lots of guys run like this and no one will make fun of you, and many do quite well.
