It won't matter. In those hard to draw zones if it's not your first choice your not going to get drawn. If in super A and your first choice is 22 with 25 tags, there will be 1200-1500 people putting in for that tag. If you don't draw here you will be Put in behind the first choice guys in your second zone. So if there are 1000 guys for 50 tags in zone 23 you don't Really have a chance.

The numbers are all on line for who applied for what zones by pool status and who drew from what pool

I've been hunting here for only eleven years, first entered the draw in 2002.
I've been drawn for moose twice, different zones, both times I was Super A pool when drawn. I've been drawn for elk three times, from super A, A, and B pools, again different zones each time. I always apply for as many zones as allowed, each time picking some zones that I guess most people won't apply for, hoping that helps my chances.
 
I spent 9 years in super A before I got a moose tag. The year I was drawn (2010) there was just under 9000 applicants for zone 19 and I got one of 25 tags. 23 was the first zone down here with a draw and the first draw was 2006. I know of a few guys hat have tried for years to get zone 6 and never got a tag. The bright side is there is a ton of general tag zones up north that a guy can still hunt when the draw falls through.


Saskhunter I talked with a guy at a function that works in the draw office and asked how the system works. The more zones you put in for the better your chance of being drawn. He explained the draw like this. You get your name drawn out of the moose pool. They check your first choice zone 1 and all tags are gone. They then check your second choice zone 2 and there is no tags left then they check zone 3 and so on until there is no more options. If your 5th choice has a tag left in it you will get that zone. If you are not dead set on the zone you will be hunting your chances of being drawn go up.
 
Tb- totally agree that's how it works but in tough draw zones like the one in the op it won't matter if your first zone isn't drawn it's not going to matter if you put in 6 tough draw areas. I'm sure if he put in for a zone up north a tag would be in his pocket.

I usually put in for a few zone for deer and antelope but I only put in for one zone for moose. It worked in 2009 and I'll be happy to pull that same tag again in 25 years if that's what it takes

You are being good to everyone else who wants the maximum number of chances. Thanks. I hope you get another tag in your preferred zone in much less than 25 years.
 
I've seen enough moose die to know what kind of moose I want for my second bull. Antlerless moose, small bulls and anything under 50" or pretty safe. If I feel the need I'll do a regular season hunt or archery hunt during the rut. Lots of good options for hunting here
 
That makes sense. I haven't seen enough moose to shoot one yet, so I put in six zone choices on my application. And this year I'll probably buy a regular license in one of those zones up north.
