New to the forum so I gotta say hello to everyone!

Moving on... I bought my 1st gun today after firing a few of my buddys 12g's

I decided to go with the 535 turkey thug from mossberg, I couldn't resist the pistol grip...

It came with the standard issue 20" xx-full accu choke. I know that I am going to purchase the rifled slug barrel so I can double up as a deer gun.

What I would like some input on is; wether or not I can use the stock barrel set up for shooting clays, waterfowl and small game, or is a multi purpose barrel needed?

Also what shells/optics do you guys recommend/use?

Can I shoot target loads out of my stock barrel/choke??

Appreciate any input I can get, I wanna hear some wisdom so I don't hurt my new baby

I would buy a 28 inch barrel for trap. Also need to post in the shotgun forum. You can use the turkey barrel just buy a different choke like a mod or ic.

I don't see it that way, the firearm in question is definitely a "Hunting and Sporting Arm".

But you are right, just get a set of chokes for your existing barrel. Using the turkey barrel will get you more practice with handling it too. No use trying to get used to a hunting shotgun with a 28" barrel when you'll be hunting with a 20". 8" seems like quite a difference to me. But hey, the first duck I got was a seagull, and I killed that with my Jeep.

In terms of what shells and other advice, go out and buy a flat or two of target loads, a hand thrower and a couple of boxes of clay pigeons. Even with a xx Full choke, it will get you intimate with the shotgun and break it in. Hell, my clay pigeon shooting gun was a Winchester 2200 with a full choke. Busted clays like a house on fire.

A good friend of mine bought a Mossberg 500 3 barrel combo and put about 300 rounds into it to get it good and smooth.

Enjoy your purchase and time on the forum!
