Hey all.

I'm currently in China and I'm wondering if there are any SKS/7.62x39 related activities I can do while here.

Would I be able to track down some surplus ammo to purchase on the cheap? Set up a deal of some sort?

Is it even possible? I've tried looking online but there is no information readily accessible.

Anybody know anything?

China is a totalitarian regime with strong social tensions, especially with minorities. I'm sure it is possible to do this, but you should thread very lightly and carefully, as you could get in a lot of trouble very easily.

ummmmm probaly a very bad idea to screw around trying to export ammo or even looking for ammo while in country.

Also Chinese internet is monitored and key words will get you alerted

Can you say jail time in a really jail where you get daily butt kickings

P.s. see you on the 6 O'clock news ;)

To be sure. I'm not looking to do anything even remotely illegal - I was just thinking maybe I would be able to get a better deal than a company dealing from North America.

I use a VPN to do my internet surfin'. Also - I'm not just gonna start asking around. Even being overheard talking about the Communist Party as a foreigner can earn you a visit for a 'routine' Passport/Visa check.

remember :p

I was there on vacation for a few weeks a couple of years back. I came accross some repro scopes (ie. fake acog's etc.) in some shady stores (didnt bother buying because I did not want them). I think something like that should be no problem to bring back but I would strongly suggest staying away from any guns/ ammo.

But what's legal in China? People get thrown in jail for (say) "violating tax laws" - they don't bother specifying what they did exactly that violating the law, just that they did. Of course their real crime is doing something the regime doesn't like.

The *only* protection you have in China is doing bad things to you "may make them look bad". If they can claim you are an arms smuggler out to support Muslim terrorists (read up on the Uyghurs and their struggle), and thus not a sympathy-inducing victim... you can kiss your organs goodbye.

I'm being a bit melodramatic here, but not that much :runaway:

If you know the right people, anything goes if you have lots of money. This applies especially if you have family ties with the right people.

Regarding with the arms trade and anything to do with the CCP. Good luck trying to get close if you know nothing of the culture and language.

If you have to come onto the internet to ask about advice regarding this sort of subject matter, you already know you are not even remotely qualified to be treading into this sort of venture.
My advice? Stay out of it if you have no clue what you are getting into. The last thing you want is to make somebody loose face with ties with the PLA.

It's not worth trying to setup unless you're going to buy it by the container load since you won't be able to fly back (or leave China for that matter) with a crate of ammo and even if you could ship it, the weight of the crate would negate any savings. I don't think you'd even be able to buy it. In Vietnam they wouldn't even let me load my own magazine when I went to the range and the prices were worse than in Canada.

I'd say just enjoy your trip and leave the gun deals to the retailers. However, I know there are a few shooting ranges you can go to there to get your full auto on. As far as I can tell, they're open to the public as there's some YouTube videos of foreigners shooting there. Being China, it's possibly reasonably priced, too.

That's wayyy more serious than I was thinking. I was just wondering if there was anything simple I could do to get some cheap ammo shipped or something.

That sounds about right. Oh well.

Sound advice - ranges opened to tourists are probably safe to go to and enjoy, there are no political/economic "angles" here (except them taking some of your money).

China is no firearm market, only army, police can carry or use firearms, but if you want shoot, you can go to the shooting school or range, but the price is really high, burn $2000 CAD just take 2 hours or less, and the firearms all locked on table, can not move 1 meter away.
gun law: 1:sport firearm: anyone make, sale, hide, transport, firearm/ammo/or anything like firearm(air gun), police take all gun and ammo you get, and 5-7 years jail.
2:mil/police firearm: sale, hide, use mil/police firearms, take all gun and ammo, 7years - whole life jail or death penalty

guns and ammo only shows on black market, so you know black market get black price, hehe! 10x more than here, in china if you want have a gun, the point only one, want someone go to .........

Don't worry, you won't go to prison for posting on here about wanting to shoot or export ammo. I posted on CGN my entire trip last year, and I was posting in the firearms and politics section. They really won't care unless your trying to conspire to take down the gov't or spread rumors that would promote unrest. Unlike %99 of the people on these forums, I have actually been to China, I own property there, I visit there and I follow whats going on in the country from reliable sources ;)

When your in the local markets check out the SKS pellet guns that could easily pass as the real deal. Also you will find tons of millitary style shops around the major cities selling Aimpoint/eotech/trijcon clones as well as tactical vests and replica guns that look legit! There is a lot of cool millitary stuff in the markets, I brought home some medals, badges, and patches for some of my CF friends, I even got some cool Mao era stuff.

You won't find ammo, and if you were able to get in contact with a manufacturer, you would need an export license to get it out of China and Into Canada, it is really not economically viable. Don't bother trying to shoot over there, there is far to much red tape to get onto a base to shoot unless you have a connection.

Enjoy your trip, China is an amazing country and you will probably learn more about it on your stay than you will from people on these boards. The food is great, there is tons to see and do and the people there are really nice.

My mother taught in China within the last decade. There were three T's they were told to never mention - Taiwan, Tibet and Tiananmen.

Buying ammo? A few cases is nothing. A container load is possible if you have a real good relationship. Offer to buy a ship load and you can make new friends. But you better have the cash to back it up.

There is a gun range in the north west corner of Beijing where you can fire just about everything from a .22 to an RPG...Price is depending on what you shoot. The rifles are now chained to a pipe so they point downrange, but most other items you have an attendant with you. Ask around, as I cannot remember the address. The price again, is per round ..........
