Crooked gas block?

So I finally got my rifle out to the range for the first time, seems to shoot well, however its my first time shooting an AR...

I did notice today that my low profile gas block looks like its off center by a couple of degrees on the barrel.. Almost like its shifted left a tiny bit. Its definitely stuck on there, so its not moving, but i guess it was installed that way. When I take off the handguard, the gas tube sppears to be pretty straight, but when i looked it from the gas block from the front it looks a tiny bit crooked. Could this cause any problems?

Thanks

Is it a pinned or clamp on style? I also had the same thing happen with my rifle. The gas ports are fairly generous so you can have a lot of leeway for improper installation. If it's a clamp on, I would recommend removing the handguard and reseating the gas block. This is what I did. Mind you it's mostly cosmetic, but it will always be in the back of your head.

Im not sure which type it is, but it looks exactly like this one.. I think its pinned?

If it's pinned... you are stuck with it as it. No problem as it seems to be working for you. Cosmetic only.

If it were an A2 style gas block then that would suck.

Did you build it or buy it complete? Was it new or did the seller build it?

I bought it used off the EE... He had it built by a local gunsmith who owns his own shop

I installed my own gas block a little bit canted as well because I didn't take the time to really check it... The hole inside the gas block is huge compared to the gas port hole in the barrel and even though it's a bit canted, the gas port hole in the barrel is not covered at all by the gas block.

My gas block looks exactly like that one, too. It has two Allen screws at the bottom to tighten it to the barrel. I took a drill and drilled some dimples underneath my barrel so that the screws would sit in there. I also applied blue Loctite and I have a free-float rail on top of all that...

...I ain't taking it apart to straighten the gas block, hehe.

Mine shoots fine, yours should be alright as well.

Gas blocks like this are usually held on by set screws on the underside of the block. If you loosen the set screws the block can be moved. I can't believe it has no way of being secured to the barrel other than friction because it would be free to move left/right or forward. Standard A2 gas blocks are pinned on with taper pins and most lo profile blocks are held on by set screws or clamps. This pic looks like a commercial photo. Post a few photos showing the actual block from both sides & the bottom & we can give you a better idea of what you're dealing with. If worse comes to worse junk this block & replace it with a Yankee Hill or some similar lo pro block and that should solve your problem.

Mine is exactly as crosshair described... it has two small allen key ports on the bottom of it.

To be hoenst, its quite hard to notice that its crooked, you have to stare at it for a bit.. Its only off by a few degrees. I just wanted to make sure this didnt cause any functional problems as I am still very new to ARs (and most modern day guns)

If it's currently working, and providing it's tight and not moving; it should be fine. If you notice it short stroking, look there first.

Also it has one of these sitting right behind it:

i plan on buying a new Daniel defense quad rail tomorrow as my current one is crap... Hopefully it all fits haha

If my new quad rail is longer than than my current handguard, will the quad rail fit over it or what? Or will i be required to remove the low pro gas block to install it?

I'm not sure. What type of handguard/rail do you have on it now and what are you replacing it with?

If you're getting a free float, you may have to remove it, especially if it's longer.
If it's a two piece style, non free float, you may actually need it......and if you got a rail that was longer, it probably won't go on properly.......

Depending on the rail, you might need to use the barrel nut that is sold with the rail. If it's a free-float rail you definitely want to remove the handguard cap. Either way, chances are you'll have to take off everything.

The good news is you get to straighten your gas block ;)

Well i currently have an el cheapo quad rail that came with the rifle.. I believe this to be it:

http://combatoptical.com/catalog/AR15-M4-6.5-INCH-RIS-QUAD-PICATINNY-RIFLE-HAND-GUARD--564.html

And the one i want to buy tomorrow is a daniel defense EZ Car 7.0.

I noticed the one i have one is 6.5 inches, yet the DD was is 7... The daniel defense is not free float either, I just want to switch it out because my current one is clearly a crap finish and fits poorly on the rifle. hate cheap junk :p.

They are both carbine length, but I guess im half an inch too long on the new rail??

The DD one has the thing sticking out the end, that's why it's longer. Will fit no problem. And for both of those rails you need the handguard cap.
