My Archangel M14/M1A stock fitting

Very nice i based my write up on chalkriver's howto myself but because i was not understanding every step i made a complete how to myself with the additional pictures i wouldve want to see. Plus i grounded the sling stud a bit to.

Old thread I know, but am I GLAD you took the time to do this for us all, cheers mate.
My stock is in the post and I cant wait to start fitting er up. Your post is just what I was hoping to find....Thanks again :)

:)Thank you very much I try to make how to's they way I would like to see them done.

Good job and love the final product. It is however sad that one would have to do this for a proper fit. Maybe they should make a design MOD for M14/305 Norc guys. Would probably help the sales alot. I have no patience when it comes to making things fit out of the box. That's why I did not buy one.

Here's the final result of the Archangel stock installation on my M14S...

What kind of glass is that, Z?

Awesome write-up Parabellum! Great details with the pics...this process would have been lost on me without them!

On the positive side. Most stocks benefit from a bedding job, and as far as I am concerned I get to glass bed the stock and get it to fit all in one go. Dont mind paying 300 bucks and fiddling a bit when I could pay a 1000 bucks and still fiddle a bit.
On another note I finally got MOA today at the range :))) All I had to do was move up to 150gr from 145gr. Did it twice in case it was a fluke. One big happy Teddy today :)

Hey Longshot! :p

Optics are made from the reknown company called: Sightron.
Model of the scope is SII Big Sky 6.5-20×50 Mildot

Scope has:

  • Magnification from 6.5x to 20x
  • 50mm of object diameter
  • An eye relief of 4.2-4.3
  • A 1"inch tube
  • An adjustable side Paralax
  • 20mins per turret revolution (Target Turrets)
  • 1/4 click per inch value

I've tighted up the scope with a Promag PM081 mount and some Weaver 6 bolts tactical 1″ rings.

Bought the scope from Jerry Teo @ Mystic Precision:
http://www.mysticprecision.com/wp/616/sightron-sii-big-sky-6-5x20-50-mildot-or-dot-reticle/

I can tell you this, this scope glass belongs to the Nightforce/Leupold league, but without the price tag…

Cost me only around 690$ CAD back in 2011 and I must tell you it worth every dollar! It’s the best bang for the buck I’ve paid for a long time!
Good price for a nice quality scope! :p

Jerry actually made an article on his website about this particular M14 rifle I've worked on:
http://www.mysticprecision.com/wp/1738/norinco-m305-and-promag-precision-stock-build/

What kinda of weight does this stock add to the rifle??? Is it heavier than the chu-wood of the earlier norks???

Promag Archangel M1A weight: 67.2 oz (4.2lbs)

Original USGI stocks weight:
Fiberglass stock USGI 11686428 46.2 oz (2.89lbs)
Fiberglass stock USGI 11686428 49.0 oz (3.06 lbs)
Fiberglass stock USGI 11686428 45.4 oz (2.84 lbs)
Walnut stock USGI 7790702 41.8 oz (2.61 lbs)
Walnut stock USGI 7790702 44.4 oz (2.78 lbs)

For your info: 1 pound = 16 ounces

what kind of groups are you getting with this thing?

It looks like a really nice rifle, but Im under the impression those norcs arent the best for accuracy.

If it worked for smacking coyotes at a half decent range I might have to ponder putting one together like that someday.

I really like this stock but if its's going to add 2lbs to my rifle, it's not going to go on it.
:( bummer

Well...lots of Canucks with Norc '14's are getting good decent groups. With no modifications at all, iron sights, I got 20/20 hits on a small steel plate at 200m. And that's with budget ammo too.

Put in one of the "national match" style "spring guides", clean up the trigger, quality ammo, many Canucks are getting groups hovering right around 1.5 to 1 MOA. That's that with the Chinese barrel. Dunno about you, but that's fantastic IMO for a dependable semi-auto that kicks lightly, has superb iron sights, can mount nice glass, in a gun that's sold for $450 Canadian when NEW. I mean, I'm not expecting a $450 semi to make groups that would best a TRG-42 either...

Got my groups down to 1.5 moa in a bog standard norc. Just really worked the trigger group ( dry firing for like 2 days ) tightened everything up and find the right round for yer gun and your good to go. Just way too much fun foe 400 bucks....

What are you using for ammo? Btw is it odd that I read your posts now with a Scottish accent;)

Started using 150 Remington core lokt , previous was just throwing surplus in it. Im on a quest now to find the best round and will soon be handloading :) Cant be spending a buck and a half every bang.
And is really odd that you detected a wee accent at the clinic I have papers to prove Im Canadian LOL. Its a Geordie accent by the way..which is definitely not Scottish and some would say its not English either...but we dont give a sh-t LOL
Probably bump into ya sooner or later Filthy...and thanks agin for jacking up the clinic
