Hey guys. Can I hunt deer with a 16 ga shotgun loaded with slugs?

I think Bubba's right. The regs only state a minimum ga pertaining to the use of shot. 20g and SG. I've never had any issues finding 16g slugs. I think I picked up the ones I have now at Epps. This might be the year I take a deer with the Ithaca 37 in 16g that my great uncle left to me years ago. I've tried lots of new, expensive, shoulder smashing, sabot launching slug guns, so maybe it's time to get back to the basics. :)

its always time to get back to the basics id reather use a old beat up pump with the finish worn then a modern rifled slug gun. if i want rifled id use a rifle if i want a shotgun it would be a smooth bore

Bass Pro has em, The Remington sluggers.I use em for my sweet 16

I have a couple questions. What choke are you using and what sort of range do you find that they perform decently out to? I have no option but fixed full and haven't shot the slugs on paper yet. I expect to be good to 50yds but am curious of your results?

Took my second buck as a young man with a 16 single shot and i only left for the hunt with 2 slugs, one in the barrel, one in my pocket... JP.

Mines a fixed full choke.I was surprised how far it reaches out its pretty darn accurate up to
60 yards.i usually keep a few slugs with me when I go for upland game.love my sweet 16!

I'm not sure I would use them with full, I would stick with cyl or IC.

Foster style slugs are fine with a full choke barrel, they are still undersize even with a full choke. Out to 50 yards they should work fine in a 16. The main thing is to try your gun at that range and make sure your 16 is hitting where it's looking.
