I just bought a SVT 40, I spent several minutes picking out a kovrov 1940 SVT. But when I had the lady take the one I wanted off the shelf I pointed too the wrong one :( And didn't reliaze until I was home and already cleaning.

anyways a little dissapointed, because the bore isn't the best. (lesson learned i guess.) I got this one the facotry stamp looks like a kovrov, but the oval is different. Is it just a varation?

x 2. Naval contract for the Soviet navy and one of the rarest makers if I remember correctly (six month production period). Rumoured to be the finest made of the SVT40s but that is open to debate ;).

The oval has a factory refurbishment mark on it probably indicating the metal was cleaned up before being packed away in storage.

Looks like a kovrov.

Kovrov rifle for sure.
They have a narrow oval and a wide oval variant. If you are really luckly you get to own one of each ;)

Looks like a kovrov.
Izhevsk is a triangle, and tula a star, hard to make them look like an oval.

I've seen the izzy triangle, my mosin is one. Plus some of the refub parts have it too. The stock is an avt 1943 Tula birch stock. A real frankenstein-40.

The stamp just seems so much different from the narrow oval kovrov.

Very interesting, might explain why the first 3 inches of the bore is rough. Seawater maybe. Or who knows the barrel may not even be original.

Nice rifle, I have two svt40's, one is a '41 and the other is a '42 both Tula's. But I have a problem. Both have a number of Izhevsk parts, so do they still count as tula's? Has anyone else noticed this?

Mine is the same, butt cover, rear sight adjuster, mags are izzy stamped. Might be have too look for a svt-40 too part trade with.

I didnt check my 3 SVT yet but pretty sure they are parts and fatory mix up as well. That is the most anoying problem because of the refurbishment, many parts maybe not correct for a given year but still, we can have them at very good price so we can live with:D USA guys must be so pissed of:p

In the Army, spare parts are spare parts are spare parts and that's as far as she goes.

If it fits, it gets used.

They are maintaining combat rifles, not collector pieces.

A few Ishevsk parts on a Tula is no big deal except to the anally-retentive perfectionists.

If you think that's bad, just remember the poor British Armourer working on a London Small Arms SMLE..... and all his spares are BSA, Lithgow, National, Standard, Ishapore, Enfield and Sparkbrook!

Have fun; that's what it's all about!

I thought I would share some photos of my kovrov!
