Non-centred lube-groove?

I've got a bunch of 148gr cast wad-cutters that I've been loading for 38 Special (S&W model 14 and also for S&W 686).

There is only wax lube in one of the two lube grooves. I'm wondering whether it makes any difference if I seat the bullets with the lubed groove toward the back (#1 on the photo) or toward the front (#2). I've not noticed any difference in accuracy ( both are good). It seems like #1 results in slightly less leading in the cylinder throat.

I would be interested in how they got lube into one groove only, especially one in the middle of the bullet. Typically you run the bullet into the sizing die through which lubes flows into the grooves at the same time as the bullet is being sized. How they managed to skip all the grooves except one is a mystery to me. Just out of curiousity is the bullet diameter the same at both ends? Partially sizing a bullet could explain lube in one groove only but would leave one end of the bullet bigger than the other.
 
These are double ended wadcutters (DEWC). Doesn't matter which way they are loaded. If you find one way works better, then use them that way, not sure it would make any difference. They shoot great with light target loads.

Pan lubing would also allow only one ring to be filled if the hot lube level was that low. The outer two rings are very shallow and only used to crimp into.

I never thought to ask the guy how he did it. I've found that using the crimp groove is more accurate than seating them flush. I use 3.1gr Win231.

I wondered about the Star. I've got a Lyman Lubrisizer and I could fill just one groove by pusing the bullet into it part way but that would not size the complete bullet. I know the Star pushes the bullets all the way through but I've never seen one in action so I don't know the exact mechanics of it.

That works fine for most guns. In a Model 52 S&W you would have to seat the bullets flush with the case mouth or the round won't fit in the mag.
