I'm going to be mounting irons sights to my new AR but it doesn't have a full length rail but it does have a spot to mount a sight on the gas block.

So the question is, what do you guys recommend? I have a Magpul rear flip up that a buddy will give me so is there a front sight that can be mounted to the gas block and be compatible? Or should I buy them in a set?

These will be temporary until I figure out what I want to scope it with. And get the funds for it. So I don't want to break the bank on irons if it's possible.

This should be the last of the question threads LOL d:h: Maybe

EDIT: I should add it is a piston model if it makes a difference?

  1. Never put polymer on gas block. Even more so if it's a piston.
  2. Make sure that the sight is ment for a gas block if the gas block rail does not sit flush with the rail that your rear sight is mounted on.
  3. I prefer TROY but MI make a decent pair to and can be found on the EE cause the come on the XCR and most guy's ditch them right away.

This. Magpul specifies in their manual (I have a pair of Magpul flip-up sights, too) NOT to install their front sight on a gas block. It will not tolerate the heat. I've seen threads in other forums where people disregarded this and did it anyway, they ended up with a scrapped front sight and got ridiculed. Beware the plastic.

Yes I know there are specific sights to use. I was just wondering which ones you guy's recommend. And if there is a front sight that would be compatible with a magpul rear flip up?

Thanks for the tip on the XCR sights I will keep an eye out for them on the EE

my friend just mounted a set of midwest ind buis on his oracle the front was gas block mount. they are good quality and sturdy but not cheap.

Thats seems to be my problem. I can't justify throwing down $200-300 on irons. As a temp. I guess I might as well just save for optics instead.

why dont you just get a quad rail and mount magpul MBUS on that? i just picked up a daniel defense ez car for like 160 bucks.. its really nice..

it may cost as much as a higher end pair of irons, but at least you will then have the option to mount whatever you want in the future.

Your problem should be the other way around. I can justify spending $200-$300 on a set of good iron as a back up sight and or as main sight, instead of wasting $$ on some cheap sights and at the end, you will ended up replacing it.

Satain answered you better than I ever could have.
