JR Carbines, yes or no??? Watched some video on their website and they look pretty good but I have read some other mixed reviews. I would be interested in the 40 cal. From my understanding, this is an unrestricted rifle. Is this right??

i have the 9mm no probs after 2000 rds, dont know if they worked out the problems with the 40 and 45 but the 9 is flawless

What are the issues with the .45acp model? Is it all of them or is it less common?

The bolt in the 45 cycles too fast along with Glock mag spring issues. The regular Glock spring tips the bullet nose up too high. Combined with a bolt moving too fast= Jammomatic.
I was fortunate and did some modifications given to me by the inventor and my particular carbine now works flawlessly. I have sent the same info to other .45 JR shooters and it has worked for them as well. But I also know that the mods haven't always worked for some other shooters. You can send the rifle to Elwood Epps for warranty but this means you don't have the rifle for awhile. Annoying for sure.
Another issue is that the trigger doesn't always reset while shooting. JR Carbines will send you a new hammer and trigger assembly under warranty if you are having this problem.
I held out for this carbine because I thought the .45 JR was the best of the three versions. There are some issues, which can be fixed, but you have to decide how badly you want the .45 version and how much you are willing to do to make it work.
It is my understanding that the 9mm has had all the bugs worked out and they work quite well. That might be the calibre to go with if you want a sure thing.
One thing for sure is that they are a very accurate carbine. Most guys enjoy theirs and shoot them a lot.

from what ive seen on a few of them from state side i think the name should have been just wrong carbine of corse they mite have worked the bugs out by now

thanks for the productive addition to the thread :HR:

the 9mm run like a champ. the 40 and 45 still need some work. JRC is dedicated to there customers. send an email and you usually get a response by phone. Not many companys work like that

Funny how no one ever mentions maintenance on a JRC... Skip to the 2:35 mark to see what's involved in just removing the bolt for cleaning.

Simplicity, its quickly turning into my favorite gun. Still haven't taken mine apart, but only 150 rounds down the pipe so far.

It's actually very fast... nothing else needs to be removed to pull the bolt out (except the buffer tube & charging handle).

That video is stripping everything down, so it could be misleading to someone who doesn't own one to think they need to remove everything in order to get at the bolt.

It was a turn off for me before I got one, but now I don't mind it so much. I'm more miffed about the lack of a last-shot-bolt-hold-open.

Yeah, you got that right. For me this carbine is like the mini-14. It has it's supporters and it's detractors, people love them or hate them. Besides the fact it's NR, it has a lot going for it. I like the calibre- .45 acp. Easy to load for and packs a punch. It is deadly accurate, and yes, it's quirky. I like to tinker so for me it has been a fun challenge. When all is said and done though, man is it fun to shoot.

Agreed. It's a lot easier than you would think. Doi it once or twice and it's easy as pie after that. Great little carbine; haters going to hate but for me it's truly a winner and for the price it can't be beat.

I had some initial break in issues with my .40 but since then it has been pretty smooth. Going to be running two gun matches now with it at the club and my hateful G22  all the same mags.. what's not to like?

As mentioned these are accurate little carbines.. suprisingly so actually. I look forward to getting the conversion kits too!

I still fail to see the appeal in such an a**-backwards disassembly for routine maintenance, but to each their own. It's kind of funny what people will put up with when it's classified as non-restricted...

I don't buy guns because the way they disassemble "appeals to me". How else does a straight blowback come apart? And what are you even going on about "what people will put up with when it's classified as non-restricted"? This is the best we can get here without shelling out $3000 for a NR "black rifle".
