XCR-M Jamming....? *UPDATE*

Hi there:
it definately sounds like a gas pressure issue to me, I have an XCR-l with no troubles (sorry) but I have an 8mm FN49 and when i first started shooting it, it would pull the extractor right through the brass almost every shot it drove me nuts because i thought i was going to reload for it, but anyways, i did a bit of reading and found the gas setting was cranked way to high and was pulling the case away from the chamber before the pressure subsided and the case shrank, so sure enough i started to dial it down and now it leaves absolutely no mark and throws them in a nice neat little pile just off and to the front of me so that one is easy to try for you give it a go
cheers, Steve
Interesting idea. I went out to the garage yesterday to take the barrel out and take a look at the chamber. When I pulled the bbl out I noticed that the gas nut was a little loose. It was screwed all the way in but wasn't tight. Maybe I'll take it out tonight and play around with it before I send it back to wolverine on Monday.

OK, I've bit my tongue for long enough. I was hoodwinked into buying an XCR too.

Sell the XCR and get a Swiss. Thats what I did.

I shudder at the very idea of owning an XCR ever again.

Problem after problem.

Literally anywhere. As an added bonus, the darn thing goes bang everytime you pull the trigger. Imagine that.

you fail

.

I fail? Be nice. :)

I appologize. I'm not trying to be a jerk. But rather pass on my experiences.

I may sound blunt sometimes, but in this case I think you'll find I'm right. My $399 Norinco M-14 (actually it's my wife's ) has never never crapped out or jammed after ~5k rounds. No loc-tite applied either. She went to Hungry's clinic and shimmed the crap out of it. When you rack it, it rings as loud and long as a church bell. The sights were crappy so she installed some Garand sights, thats about all the changes she made.

You could even up the ante and get a full USGI M-14 for less than that XCR-M.

The fact is Robson arms uses their customers as beta testers. I know because I was one of them.

The XCR-M is the unnecessary, redundant answer to a solution that has existed for 59 years. And here it is again in all it's glory. It's only a matter of time before you come to the same conclusion I did. Stop fighting it. Buy a gun that works.

Search your feelings, you know I'm right.

How much does it weigh? Where do you put a scope?/Need special accesory? Pistol grips? Mags? Can you adjust the gas setting? How do you clean it? Is it easy to take apart and back together in the field? What about a different muzzle break? Or flip up sights? Can you put an AFG on it? Adjustable stock? Hows the trigger? Does it shoot MOA? Hum...

I sold my working m14 (big mistake) to buy the M, i love my M now but i had so many problems with it when i first got it. The local shop would not take it back and even charged me for shipping it back to have it fixed, adding insult to injury (will never buy from them again)

When you pay this much for a rifle you should have no problems AT ALL, and if you do the shop/manufacture should pick up ANY BILL.

How do you clean it?
The same way you clean all your guns.

Is it easy to take apart and back together in the field?
Not any harder than an XCR.

What about a different muzzle break?

Or flip up sights?

Hows the trigger?
You can put any trigger you want in it.

Does it shoot MOA? Hum...
Stock? No. Upgraded? Yes.

Any other questions?

I had this big counter post to your counter post all thought up.Then i realized you are actually right.I just did up a SAGE EBR m305 with every part you can upgrade, upgraded.About 600 bucks cheaper then a brand new XCR-M.It is not worth 600 bucks more for the XCR-M over an 'accurized ' m305,you are correct.

No worries. I'm not trying to start s**t, I'm just passing on my experience with all these rifles.

I've spent a good amount of time behind the trigger of many rifles and I'm just trying to pass down my experience. I was very upset with my XCR. We'll leave it at that.

No horse in this race; dislike either platform but apples to oranges.

At least the "M" comes in a platform modern and acceptable.

Everytime you responded to a question, it as with a "modified" M14. The fact is that no one is running them "out of the box"...or else Hungry wouldn't run clinics and there wouldn't be...oh...every piece of add on or accessory you just eloquently articulated...such as guide rods, FH's, stocks, grips, sights...I could go on.

The M14 is an awesome "battle rifle"...it excelled at what it was made for.

Everyone can modify the s**t out of a Honda Civic to make it run 1/4 mile in 12 seconds. I would still rather buy a Corvette.

I used to run an 11 second 5.0 Mustang (with street tires) in the late 80's (at 3500 feet). I routinely crushed Vette's and other overpriced tripe.

I hate Hondas but if given the choice, I'd rather be in the Honda that beats your Corvette. Style points go out the window at the track brother.

E.T. is EVERYTHING.

Good point. But, at the end of the day, I'm the guy shooting an M-14 without issues while a guy beside me trying to diagnose yet another problem with his "modern" XCR.

To each his own I guess.

This is the only problem I've had so far and it seems like a pretty minor one so I'm not too concerned. I like everything else about the M (except the weight but most of that is in the bbl).

For the record, I already have an M-14. Both rifles are well designed and I like them both. That M-14 groups minute of barn though.

LOL.

We'll mine did at first too. After we shimmed it at Hungry;s clinic the thing rings like a church bell when you rack it.

The accuracy is great now too.

Again, not trying to start a fight, just speaking from my experience.

I just went to the range today with my XCR-M and love it... RobArm solved all the issues I noticed and did not like on my really early XCR-L with that new rifle (The early XCR-L did not open enough to allow easy cleaning, the front pin had a small, difficult to grasp and easilly lost clip that needed to be removed before the pin could be drifted, etc)... Ran flawlessly all day... Even the machining of the lower makes cleaning easier!

That rifle is superior to the M305, M1A or M14 in every way except price. But then again, a US made M1A, with an aftermarked stock like the EBR and a sight rail like the ARMS 18 cost about the same as a XCR-M and the result is not as good in my book... And I owned an EBR stocked M14 with a Brookfield mount and NM parts installed so I know what I'm talking about... Still have my 305... But the XCR-M and the KelTec RFB are now my prefered .308 rifles!
