Found this and from what I can tell looks like they are refurbing AK mags to fit the VZ58 (minus the bolt hold open) can anyone translate this?

oh? thats cool Im wondering how much we would get here for? I wouldn't mind some steel mags to feed my 3 VZ rifles, depending on price.

Too much money and I'd prefer Russian or Bulgarian synthetic mags to steel. Milspec synthetic AK mags are actually lighter than the VZ aluminums while being tougher than the steels.

I'd take steel if the price was right though, I'm not crazy about the VZ mags and I find a bolt hold open kind of pointless if you need to come up and hit the charging handle anyway.

No one counts rounds in a firefight. Imagine drawing down on an enemy who's doing the same to you, you squeeze the trigger and it goes *click* because rather than locking back on the last round, your bolt carrier happily slammed home again on an empty chamber. I'm sure more than one AK-bearing soldier has paid with their life for that design flaw.

Yugo M70 AK mags incorporate a BHO on the follower but the carrier will fly home u0pon removal requiring you to charge it again. Still better than the above scenario.

As for the converted AK mags above those are pretty sweet. If it weren't for the price tag I'd invest in some as I too am not thrilled with the VZ mags. I suspect it will be some time before you start seeing aftermarket magazines for the VZ platform, it's only popular up here because we can't have the AK. I read a lot of Americans singing praise about the VZ and how it's superior to the AK but it just hasn't really caught on. Let's face it, the VZ loses to the AK when it comes to appearance, and that matters to a lot of people.

on a ak when it go's click hold the bolt open grab a new mag hit the mag release with that mag put new mag in and let the bolt fly with pratice you can get real good at it

Anyone who actually uses an AK will tell you the "Iraqi reload" as you describe is useful only for airsofters and Youtube heroes. Taking your hand off the pistol grip is a great way to lose retention of your weapon.

Yes it is true that there is no bolt hold open follower on the AK although all you would need is to have your welder friend to cut and re-weld the tab in the correct space and also you would need to also add and remove materail in the front of the magazine in order for it to seat properly in the mag-well.

using the thumb on the mag release is over rated :p your best bet is to turn the gun on its side and use the mag on mag then rack the bolt if needed in CQB it can be fired like this and you can still hit a man sized target

remember not every one is as slow as the gun in the vid to reload practice practice practice

now if you look at beyond the firearm 2 it will show you just about every way to reload a ak platform
