Does anyone know if the barrel of the 702 can be taken off?

Is it pinned in? Threaded? Glued? :D

I've been thinking of picking up one of the Tac's for my daughter, she's been bugging me about getting one like mine (SR22) but the weight of the SR is still to heavy for her. I've handled one of the Tac versions in Cabelas and the weight is good.

BUT .. as someone who likes to tinker, I'd want to get that barrel shortened and threaded down to 16.5 :D

Me thinks if it's possible ... custom barrel ... lol

let me know either way ;)

I had mine threaded. So yes, can be taken off, but I wouldn't do it myself.

Just bring it to your gunsmith, have him do the work.

The only problem with that is I want a shorter barrel. The standard barrel on the TAC models are 18", I'd like to get that shaved down to 14.5 - 16.5. And from my understanding, you cannot legally cut the barrel, but have to have it manufactured to specific lengths.

Yeah gotcha.

I'm sure you can find a manufacturer that would make you the barrel you want, but it would probably cost you many times the pricetag of the gun, as it would be a one-of-a-kind barrel. I'm not sure it is worth spending that kind of cash on a mossberg 702/tactical .22, to be perfectly honest.

Have you looked into the 10/22 with marauder kit? I don't know what the weight is on those, but given they are made out of plastic, they may very well be lighter than the SR-22.

I understand that ... I felt the same way about all my other rifles too :D

And I still can't say no when I see something cool in the end, wither it be real or in my head ... lol

As for the maurader/nomad, it's looks to be too bulky for my 10yr old, sure she'd grow into it, but I didn't think she'd grow out of her Hotshot ;)

.
Aside from any legal ramifications, shortening a barrel by only 1 1/2 inches is not really going to save an appreciable amount of weight or be that noticeable in length to make much of a difference.

No. But it will make the barrel shorter which is the whole idea of this post. Lol

how about the pietta pps50 with synthetic stock?

My danis (daughter) likes my SR22 and is set on wanting a AR style :D :p I think she watches me play BF3 too much.

And the Mossberg Tactical is the one I am going to get her, not going to worry about the overall length ... it's only 2" so I won't fret it. Maybe somewhere along the line I'll find a company to make me a barrel for it that is a bit shorter.

But ...

Was the barrel pinned? Press fit? Bolted in?

As per my original question ;)
