Just got my M14Doc CQB and am ready to put an optic on now that my rifle has found its permanent home. I'm looking to find a good setup for an easy cheek weld and overall performance.

Looking for input from anyone running any of the following setups, specifically optic height over factory irons.
-arms 18 or CASM with vortex strikefire
-CASM RD with Burris Fastfire or similar reflex sight

Here's a pic of it as it sits. Chop with Troy muzzle brake done by Casey at TacOrd, NEA bolt release and spring guide, shimmed gas system. Still waiting to pick up an AFG from a friend, get my BFG sling and VTAC mount/surefire out of my locker at work, and as per above, sort out optics.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Yer rifle makes my stock look ###y ;)
1 vote for an Ultimak M8 and a leupold tactical long eye relief scope ;)
Or maybe that new CASV from Vltor

Glad you like Thomas, it feels great to have it in my hands, couldn't be happier! I wanted to avoid using an aftermarket handguard because a) I like the classic look of the factory one (despite the fact that I have replaced the rest of the rifle lol) and b) I didn't want to add anymore weight than I already have. Hence why I had you do the integrated side rails ;) Also trying to keep costs down by sticking with a simple red dot so I can start building the next one, which will be more longrange oriented and less zombie/trunk gun.

Another vote for the Ultimak M8 rail but I'd go for a dot sight like the sparc or micro H1. Nice rifle by the way!

Looks great Matt !!
Another vote for the Ultimak M8 , I mounted one on my factory shorty and used a Bushnell TRS-25 for optics. I can still cowitness with the rear sight .

:agree:

I should have been a little more specific, I need to get a little higher than the irons, not really concerned with cowitnessing. And while I know the ultimak is a nice piece of kit, I just don't think the scout setup works for me. I'll add details as to why when I'm not at work lol

First off, thanks for the complements guys, it's really coming together, and I couldn't be happier. So a little explanation as to why I need more height, and am not trying to co-witness. For whatever reason, I always had a hard time getting a comfortable cheekweld on the irons. This is not limited to the M14, I've had this issue with several guns over the years. Add to that the higher comb on the cqb stock, and I am riding even higher. I have never really found that I liked the scout setup personally, shot a buddy's SA with a scout optic and it just didn't feel right to me. Reason for looking at the strikefire over the sparc if I go that route is I kind of like the thread on 2x multiplier for that little bit of extra versatility. As much as I wanted to build a pure cqb gun out of this particular Norc, I still want to be able to make use of it's decent accuracy without spending a fortune.

chalkriver, where abouts up there can one go to shoot other than the ranges in the area. I'm new to Pet and looking for some good crown land etc. Shoot me a PM

K on my that I am going I decieded to go with this style pro-mag due to how they manufactored the relief slot's as oposed to the ARMS one also I elected to use this style of Wyane steel ring's.

Picked up my AFG1 from my buddy today and had to throw another pic up. The front rails are in a perfect position in relation to where I have the AFG dialed in. The back of the rail is just in front of my hand and acts as an excellent index point. Even with my limited ability to get on the irons, the gun is super fast coming up and I can't wait to get it out to the range. A note for anyone that is planning on running an AFG on this stock, bringing it any more than an inch or so farther back would require taking a bit of material off of the grip. I would assume this would be a non issue with an AFG2.

You know it! In all reality, the purpose of this build was to end up with sort of the anti-ar. I was building and AR and midway through the build decided that I was wasting my time on something I will only ever get to shoot at a range. I thought about dropping the coin on a swiss or a an xcr or something of the sort, and then I realized I already owned the perfectly good candidate. While it may be heavier and shoot a little harder, I love this platform, and anyone that knows me, knows that when I aim to do something, I usually do it the hard way, just to be a little different and go for the challenge.
