Who can reccomend a good AR with a 20"+ heavy barrel?

HBAR 20" is quite accurate and consistent over a variety of condition and carries good velocity for an AR. Its a bit heavy for some uses, but ideal for others. Most people don't go for a full length 20" barrel because they need a lightweight gun :/

There is a lot to choose from. Personal preference I guess. Talk to Questar. They will be able to help you out a lot.

For higher precision, you want a free floated stainless steel barrel. Rock River Arms (RRA) and Noveske are offering this as a whole package with an AR15. Otherwise, you'll have to buy parts and build a rifle (or get someone else to).

Who makes the best one is like a Ford - Chevy debate (and we know the Ford always wins :D) ...

go brand name and in most cases it will work be fine. I was fortunate enough to acquire an original Colt Delta H-Bar with a 1-7 twist years ago. It's a true full length HBar and shoots well with factory ammo but truly shines with match ammo / handloads. This set up will cost you big bucks now (if you can find one).

I use the 20" primarily for BR shooting. It is somewhat unyieldly compared to my shorter AR's so it doesn't see any two / three gun events. Shop around... if you are a leftie then Stag (and now RRA) offer dedicated LH models from factory.

Ultimately the sky is the limit and the final decision will be driven by what you can afford. For most shooters, range use and 300m or less shooting any 16" brand name model is more than adequate. You are going to have to determine what the platform will be primarily used for. If it is BR only then sure a 20" and a good scope is a good choice; if you plan on some BR and run & gun games maybe a shorter barrel with an RD of some sort would be better. AR's are a fun & versatile platforms. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I have a Stag Model 6 and it definitely lives up to the 0.5 MOA guarantee. Fit between the upper and lower is perfect as they match them for the model 6. Arms East had them in stock a couple of weeks ago...

For higher precision, you want a free floated stainless steel barrel.

I would also add a clamp on gas block.

Robert Whitley is one of the top precision AR builders out there. The article below give a lot of good information at the bottom about the things that matter when building a precision AR.

I think the STI 16" is an excellent value. I have a 20" Bushmaster XM HBAR which I use for 3gun and after it gets a trigger job it'll be a great value gun.
