I'm looking to shoot coyotes that come on my acreage and bug my horses/dogs. I also have room to shoot up to 250yds with having several miles backdrop.
I was looking at a sub 2000 and SU-16. To bad the AR-15s are restricted. Would love to use them.
I did buy a 22wmr since it was on sale for a good price. Shoots well and costs 20¢ a shot. But I think it lacks punch and would hate to wound a coyote rather than kill it.
Any other rifles I should look at?
Thanks for your time!

You want cheap semi-auto, then a CZ858 would be a good start.

The sub 2000 is pretty good out to 100 for coyote, but not much past that.

The su16 is not a bad little rifle, but I would either spend more and go with a Tavor or XCR or stick with the CZ858.

Then of course there is the M305... That will do the job well but you will spend more on ammo.

Either of these two would be good, but, depends on your price range, as they are thousands of dollars apart...they are also both NON-Restricted :)

look at savage, tikka, marlin, winchester or ruger for a good bolt, unless it was made in the 80's or so, I am not a big fan of any of the lower end lemontons, what was once a great firearms company is now working very hard to become the biggest POS company in the business imo.

depending if you want to keep the hide, go for 22 cal. centerfire, not sure how pleased you would be with the 7.62x39 variants (do some further research on that, it wasn't designed as a 'target' round), a bolt-action will likely suit your purposes better as already stated.

A standard bolt action rifle is going to outperform almost any semi auto, and will have a decent system for mounting a scope. And if it doesn't come with a good trigger, its easy to fix that problem. I'd far rather know that I can hit the animal reliably at 250 yards, than worry about a fast follow up shot.

I have a tikka t3 varmint that I use for coyotes and its awesome. Looking to get an xcr in the near future though. I had a Remington sps tactical for a while and hated it. Sent it back to Remington twice because it was cratering primers in my cases. They offered me a new gun after they couldn't fix it but a spent a few extra bucks to get the tikka and never looked back. Excellent gun.

Exactly. A fast follow up shot is only necessary if you miss your mark with the first.
Any bolt action .223, 22-250,25-06,243,6.5x55 will do the job out to 250yds some quite a bit further with practice.

Oh ya my tikka is a 223. For coyotes it's a perfect caliber IMO. 22-250 is good to but it's really loud. You gain about 400 fps though with the lighter bullets. 50 gr ballistic tips drop them in their tracks every time.

I'd buy a Stevens model 200 in 223 and spend the rest on a good scope and rings. Maybe a Redfield Revolution 4-12 with accurange and Burris signature rings. Of course you can spend more on the rifle, but at that budget, it probably won't shoot better.
