First off I have heard that it is a bad idea to dry fire with rimfire guns but I have also heard that 10/22's are fine to dry fire as much as you want. If someone could clear this up for me I would appreciate it.

secondly I want to after market part this baby up but I have never made a project gun so if someone could point me in the right direction for the following parts:

Hogue stock (tan)
Quad rail
Vertical foregrip
Bull Barrel
Red dot optic (interested in the vortex sparc and strikefire)

I'm open to brand suggestions and any other mods you think are worth while. Thanks!

first thing get a tuffer buffer.
It replaces the bolt pin with a rubber/polymer one.
This will make the gun quieter and no big CLACK on recoil.
It also saves your receiver from stress and warping/cracks after many thousands of rounds downrange.

If you're interested, Dlask Arms is a good place to start for some of those parts, especially the barrels. Make sure you go over the Rimfire Parts EE. It's a goldmine!

Good luck! :)

After 40 plus years playing with guns i bought my first 10/22 about a 2 months ago.
I suggest you shoot the heck out of it to begin with and look at some of the ones that are on this site before changing yours. Currently looking for a second to work on.
The one I bought is a 1965 version in perfect shape.

I'd like to make it like the bottom one in this picture I think it belongs to someone on this board

The firing pin has a slot in it, and a cross pin through it, limiting travel. It is absolutely safe to dry fire.

Get a trigger job. If you're going to be target shooting, 2 to 2.5 lb pull. If it's going to be a carry gun, then 3 to 3.5 lb pull. I suggest Brimstone Gunsmithing Tier 2. Call or email him, tell him you're Canadian, and make sure he has any parts you want in stock to minimize turn-around time.

And that barrel looks similar to, but maybe not exactly the same as, this one: GM Running Boar Barrel. Might be available from Bits of Pieces. Email them for a list of current stock Green Mountain barrels.

Dlask arms sells the hogue stock your looking for aswell as the utg quad rail. the hogue stocks they carry are for .920 barrels but hey they sell those aswell so your in luck

no it doesnt. My '89 10/22 has seen tens of thousands of rounds with the same steel pin sitting in the same holes in the reciever. Fits about the same as my 2011 production 10/22.

I still feel better with one.it is definately quieter with a tuffer buffer.
