Anyone flying to the Nationals with Air Canada from Toronto

I just flew Toronto-Kelowna then Calgary-Toronto with a shotgun via Wesjet. Never asked to show anything. Just filled in the form. $20 each way for second bag.

Baggage went on the regular belt and came off wityh my other luggage both ways.

Put it through the sanner in TO. Just checked it in Calgary. No fuss no muss no bother.

When I flew to Great Britain via Air Canada, attendant asked to se firearm at the check in counter. She filled out the paperwork, then neglected to inform UK customs. When I got to the UK, customs got in a flap because they didn't know I was coming. Leaving was apiece of cake. Customs attendant came to the counter and took from me and did whatever they do. It came out with the rest of my luggage in TO. $50 each way for fireram. No special treatment.

Flew TO to Houston. Charged $50 extra and left my gun in TO. Had to wait for the next flight to pick it up.

In US TSA wants to see the gun. Gave them combination on case. They take it and it appeared at my destination.
 
it's not illegal for them to check your compliance with their regulations, just so you know. I quite happily allow them to do it, laugh when they pick them up and point them all over (while shaking my head of course) and smile as I lock it all back up.
 
I have flown a lot with Air Canada and have never been asked to open a firearm case. For the safety of the aircraft they have the right to question or inspect the case. If you don't comply they could refuse to accept your luggage.

Every time I'm asked I make it a point to be as visible as possible - take the cable lock off, rack a mag in, slap it on the counter and ask them to show me empty because they are the expert.

Last time I flew with my pistols, they asked to see them to verify they were empty.
Opened the case and told them to go ahead.
Lady had no clue what she was looking at let alone how to ensure they were unloaded.

I was in a good mood so I explained how, locked up and went on my way.

Just remember that because they are not licensed, they are touching the gun under your supervision because you are the licensed one.

Yea one picked my pistol up and pointed it at people in the line behind me and started to make shooting sounds. I told her it was illegal to point a firearm at anyone loaded or not in Canada. She dropped it and told me it was empty enough for her.
