I am looking to do my BB and get into some 'casual' IPSC this fall and winter, using my CZ85 Combat.

I need a holster for that purpose and am wondering what folks recommend? It seems Blade Tech are popular. What about Fobus?

I am looking for a safe, 'legal' and useful holster that remains affordable. It doesn't have to be top-end highly competative gear.

Thanks!

ghost stinger. like a bladetech but better for adjustability. I had a bladetech, liked it, ..but like the stinger better.

Fobus are OK, but I highly recommend spending the extra for Blade-Tech or Comp-Tac gear. Blade-Tech is more modular if that matters.

Most would probably say Bladetech Kydex or better, but the Fobus isn't exactly junk: It is a very inexpensive injection molded plastic holster. If you use it appropriately, it's a bargain.

If you decide to get into IPSC, you'll probably be dissatisfied with the Fobus. If you decide not to get into IPSC, there's a pretty good chance the Fobus will be enough. For $20 (or less), it's not a bad way to try out the sport.

Actually, the Beretta 92 kydex Uncle Mikes holster works for the CZ 85 Combat.

I must agree the Fobus holsters are crap. I have seen Fobus that would not release the gun once it was put into it. The newer versions with the adjustable tension are a little better.

For the op, the stinger isnt allowed in uspsa so if you plan to shoot accross the border then bad choice

edit: i had a different image in my head than what the pictures show, it looks legal to me

Why not? covers the slide up almost to the chamber doesn't it?

I guess it is subjective. USPSA rule book has note for production division holster: "Suitable for everyday use". So, can be up to the RM to decide.

Anyways, in a long term, those moving parts tend to get loose, so I still won't recommend highly adjustable holster for Production division.

I just got a Hogue PowerSpeed Universal Speed Holster from my trip south. Is this acceptable for use in Production Class as the trigger guard is fully covered when my CZ 85 Combat is mounted?

Yes legal for IPSC production, AFAIK not legal for USPSA Production.

DO NOT GET THE FOBUS.

I had one, couldn't get my firearm to draw out of it, it would get stuck. Spent the money on a bladetech. Very worth it.

Sounds like you got one of the advanced snatch-proof Fobus holsters.

:)

Seriously, I had the same issue, but all that was required was working on the draw angle. Then it worked flawlessly.

Lol, I wish that was it. No, all the RO's were having a good laugh at me trying to rip the gun off my side.

Before day 2, I had put my holster in boiling water, jammed some wood shims and installed some washers to keep it open. I'm not kidding. And yes, the holster was made for my firearm, lol.

What about a Hogue Wraparound grip? Still Production Class legal?

Nope I don't think CZ make similar grips at the factory. If I'm wrong on that and they do then yes. If you want "grip-ier" grips try getting some rubber grips like those that come on the shadow. I love them on my shadow and I'm 99% sure they would fit your gun, but I'd make sure before you bought them. Perhaps someone else know more than I.

17.3 Aftermarket grip panels which match the profile and contours of the OFM standard or optional grip
panels for the approved handgun and/or the application of tape on grips (see Appendix E3) are permitted.
However, rubber sleeves are prohibited.
