AR in 7.62x39mm?

Exactly.

I can shoot my XCR twice as much as one of my AR's for the same cost and can pick up my empties wholesale with a big magnet on wheels.:)

If someone already has a XCR then that's the firearm to shoot 7.62x39 out of. It's piston driven rather than DI. Cleaning would be the same as for a CZ858. Not too bad.

On a DI ar it is.

500 rounds down the range so far, the barrel and gas tube haven't rusted out yet and we are talking Westcoast rainforest weather here :p

It's not quite as easy an 858, but still not hard.

The XCR requires you to clean the regulator and the gas tube, two parts the VZ doesn't have. The gas tube is easy to clean if you dismount the barrel, but a bit of a PITA when you don't.

That said, all I do with the gas tube is run a few oily patches through it to clean out the bigger chunks.

Could always go to 7.62x35 (aka 300BLK)...just a barrel change then...but not cheap to shoot at this point.
All that's needed is a barrel for converting to a 7.62x40 as well but I'll go for the whole upper so I'm not always taring stuff apart.

Corrosive ammunition is highly under rated. My Model1 Sales 762x39 upper has digested lots of that nasty corrosive ammo and hasn't had any problems, no hot water, no windex, just a bore snake and a wipe down with the old school LSA milspec lube. Shoot the cheap fodder, it isn't as bad as reloaders and factory ammo mongers would have you believe. Maybe North American made stuff is less prone to corrosion than its import counterparts.

Ya just like in Vietnam!!! Oh wait a second....

I'll stick with my CZ for corrosive ammo. It was designed to shoot it. Which makes me wonder about the mag well too with the 7.62x39. I know in Canada it's only 5 or 10 rounds but the design of the cartridge seems to require a curved mag for reliable feeding? At least that's how it seems. Any other design seems to have a curved mag and the magwell is designed for this. How does an AR deal with this?

Edited: I see that LAR-47 uses AK mags. Interesting.

If you have one of these AR uppers and they work for you then that's great. In principle it seems like a bad idea to me. Who knows if you buy a purpose built 7.62x39 upper maybe they factored this into the design? It would make sense. It would also explain why people aren't having to change gas tubes all the time.

Anyways an interesting topic.

Is that a Dlask upper? Looks similar to the one I am getting from GP Tactical, bit it's branded as Daniel Defence. Picture on their site is terrible :)
Did you install any optics on it? What is the grouping at 50 and 100m?

GP Tactical carries Dlask product, I would guess the barrel and the BCG is from the same source. as to optics I run red dot and irons most of the time I was getting 2 moa at 100 m with Czech surplus, but I really didn't buy it as precision shooter, if you know what I mean ;)

2 moa with surplus it's pretty darn good in by book ;) How is finish quality of this upper? Look really good on the picture. Any more pics btw? What mags are you using? I have in mind XCR 10 rounders for it.

TIA
