Is there a website or somewhere I can find the different size of bolt face for different calibers. I'm not looking for specific size itself but what calibers are the same size. For example .243 and a .308 are the same I think?? Then a 30-06 and 300WM. I'm not 100% sure but that is why I would like to find the info.

Tks

Then a 30-06 and 300WM

Ummm no :D

.243, 308, 30-06 and a plethora of other oddballs use the same bolt face, 300wm is a magnum bolt face so its slightly larger.

If you have a Lee shell plate set the leaflet will give you a rough idea...

The idea behind this is to know which caliber I could rebarrel in the future. Tks, just realized after I posted it... magnum calibers----> not same :)

Go to the source of the standardized chamber and ammo specs, SAAMI:

http://www.saami.org/specifications_and_information/index.cfm

FWIW:
  • 243/308/30-06/x57 Mauser and all of their derivatives use a 0.473" bolt face
  • standard magnums all use a 0.532" bolt face
  • 222/223 and their derivatives use a 0.378" boltface.
Those three sizes will cover probably 90% of all the cartridges you will commonly come across.

Tks a lot guys. Now I have a better idea of what calibers are interchangeable by keeping the same action. :)

Except it's not as simple as that. For example 6BR and 30-06 have the same boot face but you wouldn't want to try one in an action that started as the other. Action length is an important factor in cartridge conversion.
