I'm guessing that 5x5 will be around the 160" mark. And that 4x4 is also a good looking deer. The pictures are pretty good quality, what kind of trail camera are you using ?

its a ltl acorn trail camera. it was around 200 bucks. its small and the batteries lat all year long. its by far the best trail camera i have had!

The 5x5 will be lucky to break 140. Short beams and no mass, good looking young deer though.

Lucky to break 140" come on man... Ive shot many 140" and they were waaay smaller then that. Given he;s in velevet hes a good deer.

He's a 5x5 that looks to be wider the his ears and almost out to his nose. He's also still growing.

Im guessing 160

Yup. I would even dare to risk a higher score, depending on the size of the deer. As you don't know his weight, you don't know what to compare to. And you don't know what's under the velvet yet and if he's done cookin the horns.

He's got a good month to grow still, depending on how much he does might be a 150-170.

At the most the buck only has about 10 days of growth left. By the end of July to early August the velvet blood supply slows down dramatically where the antlers cease growing and start to harden which takes 3 to 4 weeks. Once early September arrives the antlers are hardened and the velvet is rubbed off.:D

Correct about the velvet falling off in september but they continue to grow till about the third week of august, i can say this for sure because i follow certain deers growth on property i hunt on with trailcams and in the first 3 weeks of august i have seen substantial growth on deers antlers.

Last year a buck in one area at the begining of august would have scored barely 150, when shot later that season by a friend the score was 167 5/8

as i said previous, depends how much this particular deer grows.

Well I guess that the particular buck you were watching must be the exception and not the norm.:D

Most around here anyway keep growing that long, i watch many deer on my cams and have never seen one that doesn't gain at least a few inches from the end of july till the begining of archery season.

A particular elk in my hunting area has the weirdest rack i have ever seen, i am hoping the mess he has got going on will grow to a decent rack.

Well he's a Saskatchewan deer so we know he's big bodied :D

If you figure the average width of whitetails head from ear to ear and his length form tip of nose to base of horns...he looks better then 140". He's a 140" if he was a 4x4 and he's a solid 5x5.

To the OP, he's a nice shooter buck. Thanks for sharing the pics!!

I spoke with a biologist at a fishing tournament a few years back and he said the same thing. Its all about testosterone levels. The levels drop in mid august and they can really grow alot in the last few days.

That buck is a young skinny deer he has no age on him yet. He is just another young 5x5, like many deer that get shot every year as for being a 160 class deer that an over estimation. Hard to get a skinny horned short beamed buck to score 160.

Maybe woods archer will ground check him here this up coming season, good luck to him.
